Unfortunately, I don't have a real dice next to me to compare my model, but
I think my model is not too far away from a real one.

I spent a great deal of time trying to get the correct finish for the dice,
but I am still not very satisfied. What do you think could be improved.

I also tried to simulate a green velvet surface for the table, but I didn't
get good results, so I changed to glossy wood. :(

Any comments/suggestions, as always, are greatly appreciated.

How about subseface scattering?

Dice undoubtedly comes im many shapes, but the ones I've got has the
corners cut off, to make them roll better, so the faces are actually
circular, as you can see in the attached image. In pov-speak it's an
intersection of a box and a sphere.

The colour is yellowish, to simulate ivory, and the pips are shiny, so
you get little highlights in each pip.

To me, it seems some more shading is needed in the pips to give a better
idea of depth. If they were not intended to be carved out, then I think
some sort of subtle texture rather than plain black might help. The
white surfaces of the dice look fine though!

I used your model, but I don't know... In this part of the world square-like
dice are more common :)

Thanks Ib!

Fernando.

Hmmm... good idea. I'll try to do that!

Thanks,

Fernando.

You're right, they only look like black spots, even though they're carved. I
just tweaked their finish settings to emphasize their shape. I'll post the
render after it finishes.

Thanks Matthew,

Fernando.

I'm not a pov master but I am a graphic's designer and I was looking at this
first off I think it looks great

now for comments
the little black spots on the dice nice placement but it looks a little
off try adding a jitter or whatever pov people call it but its adding s
bunch of slightly off colour pixels or dots just to take away the huge
contrast between the scene and the black black holes

and the only other thing is your lights mabey tone them down or make
some shadowless so the shadows dont sprawl all over

other than that It looks great

If you make it desktop size I would love it as a desktop

I think you've done a good job here, I always like dice images and I
think that may be my next pov project, I've got some dice here, two
green, two red and one white, most are worn from so muc use and slightly
sunbleached, it's going to be a real challenge to model them accurately.
