Ooops...

Now i see my mistake :-)

I will do some "realtime render simulation" this weekend, at the beach and
see how the shadows look like

This is really excellent work.

I agree with the suggestion that the hands should be stone, nicely chipped
and cracked, glass with caustics or subscat would be nice but...

The notion of water either falling from the sky or fountaining, dripping or
overflowing from the hands would give point to the picture, add to its
poetry and bump the render time up nicely!

ripples in sand are usually long and thin, like waves your texture is more
like that of a crowd stamping about in a wild frenzy! try
lengthening/scaling it in the z direction perhaps.

Look forward to the final result.

if you add a caravan or something like people and camels walking between the
hands, you can give the "statues" a better sense of scale. You can make them
anything from just large to absolutely enormus.

Thank you kindly.

Working on the stone as we speak, although it's hard to get it to look right
in the shade (Left Hand) with the blue tinge and out in the open (Right
Hand), then again why don't I just make two textures, one for each.
Sometimes the easiest solution is too easy to see.

I may try to add some water but I'll see how it goes.

Ok, will do

There could be some people involved, although I've not quite decided yet.

Thanks, but then again the one behind it never thinks it looks finished :-)
although I hope it will be........soon.

Great idea- how about maybe making the hands have the same sand texture as
well as having the water falling into the hands?
