Hi All

See I do listen to your comments. I've modified the mountains, the water and
added a sky. Still alot to add
the pic will be vaguely based on the celtic lord of the hunt myth.

Good improvements.

For some reason (no other scale reference, probably. Unless those grass
flowers are 4-8 inches across), the deer looks tiny. And it seems like there
should be some water in the low area of the dry stream bed in a line under
the deer's front feet and across from the big rock on the right (lower left
of attached image). It appears to be lower than the water level.

Other than that (even with that) it is good enough to be my new
wallpaper!

The background it's really nice now. The new lighting is also better.
But I liked a bit more the composition for the foreground on the first
one, was more simpler but peaceful. Perhaps bcos there are fewer
vertical stones? The water is better also, but now it seems too flat.
Finally, the animal seems unreal, as a statue. Perhaps bcos it is
jumping over an inexistant obstacle?

Well, anyhow it is going very nicely, and promises a good entry.

Thanks

You have a point regarding the deer's scale I shall have to experiment. The
water is where it should be! the dry stream bed is a path and there is a
drop down to the lake.

Thankyou.

Unfortunately the rocks in the original were randomly placed and the code
has changed, so there's no way back. Now they are placed using a pigment
map, eval_pigment and trace. (quicker than placing them by hand - just)
I agree about the water I have some (for me) tricky coding to do to get that
right - it's on the to do list.

The Stag is rearing up and will have a figure on it's back - the lord of the
hunt.

Looking at it further I realized that there must be a drop you cannot
see on this side of the lake. If you focus on the far shore, the path looks
OK, if you focus on the path it seems low... to me...

Of course, with the stretching it took to fit to my screen, all bets are
off.

One of the nicest pics I've seen so far!!!

A lot of atmosphere.

I agree with Jaime that the deer looks sort of
statuesque. I think it's the animals angle towards
the ground. It seems to me the model was originally
made for a 20 degrees angle (from the limbs' and
head's arrangement), like in a stretched leap over
a ditch, while in this image it is something
like 40 degrees.

Still, a great image.

Beautiful!

IMHO the flowers seem a little over-bright in comparison to the rest of the
scene.

At least this will teach you to use different random seeds for
different purposes next time :)

VEry nice. I'm not very happy with the darkish clouds that seem to be
coming over the mountains. Looks like a dust storm or something, which sees
out of place. I have to agree about the deer's position. Throwing the head
back (like it's rearing) will probably help a lot.

How was the grass and stones done? The stones are very nice. Are you going
to release code?

Geoff
