The scene is growing "in dies".
I'm going to add books, papers, dirt, and the robot spider should stay in a
cage.
This should look like a scientist's home desk (something like Doctor Slump's
laboratory), so I still have a lot of work to do.
Comments and suggestions are really appreciate.
JRG.

I really like the combo of organic and manmade . . .
nice wood and glass and lighting . . .
would include some sheets of paper with handwritten sketches or plans . . .
sort of like Leonardo da Vinci's drawings . . .
On the screen . . . a pic of POVray rendering the spider and some of the
.pov code.

I like this a lot! Your rendering is very clear. The books papers, and esp. the
dirt, are excellent ideas. I recommend some construction items consistent with
the spider's size: small spool of thin wire, some jewelers tools maybe, a
base-mounted magnifying glass, small soldering iron, and maybe smaller
batteries. . . .

I don't know about the cage though. I suggest perhaps having a section of the
top of the abdomen flipped open, and a wire connected to a data port inside, and
running back into the computer. For consistency, you could add some classic
green text just under the image already on the screen to indicate you're
downloading behaviors, or initializing the learning algorithms, or something.
Then put the cage off to the side.

That's just one idea. I'm basically saying make the spider the focus of the
scene's activity. IMHO if you put him in the cage, then the scene is different:"
Here is a shot of a mad scientist's workbench, and BTW look at the spider-bot in
the cage." If that's the story you really want to tell, then great! I just
think something like I've suggested would tie in to the contest theme 'more
directly'.

Nice, i would suggest some reflection for the clock and monitor screen.
Are there reflective photons on the spider? I'm not sure if you would see
them but it would be interesting to know.

BTW, are the wood textures standard Povray (T_WoodXX) or something
different?

All glass and metals objects have photons. (count 500000), but in this scene
they're barely visible...

Standard Pov textures "pro tempore", but they work so well...

Nice!

My suggestions are that there is too much empty space. I'd put things a
little closer together. Like someone else mentioned, you want most of the
attention on the spider, and now your eyes wander all over the place.

Secondly, the second (off scene) light bothers me. It's almost as bright as
the lamp itself, but it would be odd to have two desk lamps that close
together. If it's intended to be a window, then it's not bright enough (in
which case they wouldn't need the desk lamp). If it's a light source inside
the room, then it should be higher and have a bigger radius. Instead, I
would just use a faint global ambient light or a faint point light higher
up.

There needs to be a soldering iron, bits of solder and iron burns on the
desk, and spare parts scattered all over the place. Then it'd look just
like my work desk! Except for the spider that is. <smile>
