Playing with Rhino and Caustics I created this image in under three hours
(including 1h18m render at 800X600). Bit of fun this uses Area Lights,
focal blur and Radiosity to top it all off. My new wallpaper, I may expand
on it once these blasted tests are over (A-levels).

Comments appreciated

Nice. Clean. Elegant.

There are some possible artifacts above the blue grip on the pen and an the
brighter parts of the cap - but these could be just caustics, especially if
if these parts are partially transparent. The blue part on the cap also
looks a bit transparent, altough I believe it is not intended to be - this
propably due to the darker shadow on the middle section of it. Radiosity
thing?

I _like_ it. ;)

Thanks, I'm assuming that all the funny parts are produced due to the
caustics or radiosity and that the blue bit on the cap that looks out of
place is just the way in which it comes up because of the bent rays from the
caustics.

Oh and any ideas on how to improve the metal texture on the tip of the pen,
as it looks a little cheap (its just a slightly ammended silver tex from
Moray using lum .66, amb .3, diffuse .6, bril 8, phong .8 and phong size 4
with reflection .4)?

Thanks

Am no good with metals, but I start by by increasing brilliance, maybe
reflection as well. Also, give the metal something to reflect (a random
image mapped to sky sphere?).

I like this very much. Looks almost photoreal. I'm especially fond of the
translucent quality in the blue clip on the cap, and the grip. How'd ya do that?

My only comment is: astonishing; devastatingly good! I keep telling
myself that if I work hard enough some day I will perhaps make something
that remotely looks half as good. Very nice indeed! :) I mean it.

Looks nice, for the technical aspects i would prefer it without focal blur
of course. Does it use blurred reflection?

BTW, the cap does not seem to fit to the pen, but that's probably only
perspective.

Thanks - I've just gone focal blur mad, every image has to have focal blur,
; probably just one of those phases that I will grow out of.. No I'd love
to get into the fun stuff like blurred reflection but I'm too dependant on
Moray, which as of yet (that I am aware of) does not support MegaPOV
features.

Yeah, I just looked at the image again, it does look way off - I just way
over did the camera angle for effect - it does fit (when imported into Moray
is was attached, but I just took it off in Moray)

Thanks! I've been saying that for the last 2 years and say it lot now (but
then again so does everyone under the sun when they see some Gilles Tran or
H.E. Day work!)

In short I didn't plan for it, its just one of those things that come about
if you ask nicely. I'm assuming its caused by giving the clear plastic the
magical caustics and IOR, which bends the light (if my Physics is right?) in
showing up the blue. The grip is a big difference in Rhino - its the
materials that do it, its job (I create an approx model in Moray and play
with materials/phongs etc first).
