I guess I'm the only one around here who's never here of Vegemite...

Looks like quite an aggressive little sucker too...luckily it seems to be a
product of Australia, so I guess I won't have to worry about it.

Well think of it as very concentrated salty black/brown tar... Kind of a
very thick bitter soy sauce taste. Is it good but certainly takes some
getting used to. It is typically spread *thinly* on buttered bread to
create the infamous "vegemite sandwich." (Popularized by a "Men At Work"
song) Once you get used to the flavor, it can become pretty addictive. It
has to be tried (more than once) to really understand the stuff.

its one of those things you will either love or hate.

try some - very thinly spread on toast or a cheese sandwich

(dont recommend you layer it on, I have been eating it as long as I can
remember, and love it think, but that's to much for most 'yeast extract'
lovers)

you can never understand the beast. and yes it is a very addictive taste
once you acquire it, you end up eating something with it on at least once a
day :) - very high in b vitamins though

Kids here in Oz live on the stuff, although it is now owned by a
multi-national with almost no links to Australia other than it was
developed here.

The jar looks good, but comparing it to the jar I have sitting on my
kitchen table at this moment, the lid looks too big and is sitting too
high on the jar.

Perhaps the one you recieved is different from the home grown items.

Keep up the good work.

Cheers Alex.

I think the easiest way to explain the taste is that it tastes a lot like
the dark stuff you get in the bottom of the pot-roast pan or after frying
sausages. I've only tasted Vegex, Marmite and Bovril. I like Bovril the
most.
