Hi Dave,
I think you hit it. It's probably the ambient
light. I turned it up because the shadows
were hiding details. It's a balancing act I
haven't found center on yet.
I'm not sure what you mean by the textures
on the plants being washed out. I know
what it means when color is washed out.
I like the idea of the lawn mower. I might try
it. You're not the first one to suggest adding
something on the left side, so I'm figuring
the picture is out of balance and the left
side is light.
Thanks again for your help!

: How about adding a broken-down rusty lawn mower over on the left side? :)
:
: The scene looks great, except the textures of the plants are all washed out!
: The brick structure and other objects look fine... Do you have the ambient
: light set too high, maybe?
:
: This should make a very competitive IRTC entry, in my opinion...

Looks nice and very funny,
as others mentioned, the lighting looks improvable, the contrast between
light and shadow should be stronger, so you could reduce the ambient, make
the main light source brighter and maybe add a fill light.
The bricks look great, but the water is too bright IMO, at that angle
there should be not so much reflection and it also seems to have some
ambient/diffuse finish. Maybe also try variable reflection.
The grass looks somehow wrong in scale in comparison to the bricks, but
that's not so important.

Thanks Christoph,
I'm trying the ambient now. I suspect you
and Dave are correct. It wasn't unreasonable,
but I know I tweaked it for other reasons.
I'll check out the water. I'll try the variable
reflection too.
I want the grass to look overgrown. In fact, I
want the yard to look like it's not been kept
up. I'll try a run with smaller blades though.
I'm worried about the number of objects
now. Do the blades at the well look too big?
Or is it just the main body of lawn? Or both?
I really appreciate your help!

It would be good to reduce the width of the blades, maybe also vary their
color and their length to make it look like not well-kept.

Don't hesitate to play with small scales normals to give some
grain. For a natural rust pattern I'll recommend you to look
at Bouf's latest IRTC entry (cbwor.jpg) in worship, for its
wall texture. The source must be availiable.

No, no big problems, but adjusting contrast(+), brightness(-) and
saturation(-) will make it better.
Fabien.

Great work, but the textures all look a bit dry, and
there seems to be quite a bit of ambient light that
is flattenning some objects, the ambient may also be
causing the dryness problem too.

Hey Bob,
I can't make too many comments as my stupid box is only
reading 16 colors at the moment. (I don't wanna talk about it.)
I did want to say that I think your imagery is wonderful and very
evocative.
Nice job with the bricks as well.

Thanks Peter,
It must look pretty strange in 16 colors!

Thanks Steve,
I'm trying some things to rectify the
light problems. I'm trying several tests
with lower ambient light, more and
less light sources, color of light sources
and strength, and adjusting the ambient
and diffuse settings for objects. Hopefully,
I'll find a good combination and post another
pic this week sometime. I certainly appreciate
everyone's help.
Thanks!
