I tried many modifications to this scene, but most of them didn't turn out
well, so I've ended up making only some small changes to the lava and to the
fire. I'm satisfied with the result.

I've uploaded the source code to my website ( http://rsj.mobilixnet.dk ).
I've structured the code in a way so the include files can also be rendered
seperately to get a better look at specific details of the scene. For
example to two extra attached images here are the output of two of the
include files ( burner.inc and burst.inc ).

So, what do you think of the image? :)

I think it's great, but I must admit I don't really follow the stills round,
I don't know what the competition is like these days.
Re: Your last image in the post - the sequence of lava splashes; have you
checked out this round's anim competition ? "Slow Motion". The team
encourage 'Make Dr. Edgerton proud' - Dr Edgerton was the guy that first
started producing photographs of water mid-splash. (Forgive me if you
already knew that ;-)

Could be your work for the Worship round might stand you in good stead for
an anim entry as well.

Best of luck with your entry.

Sorry, but this image is not an IRTC entry (even though I considered it).

I'm not going to participate in the IRTC right now.

Excellent, as usual, Rune. I haven't taken a look at the source files yet,
so this may be a dumb question, but it looks like the hot gaseous glowing
emanations that surround the rocks and the politician aren't also coming off
the surface of the lava pool. Is that a variation that you mentioned that
didn't work out? If that doesn't work (maybe needs a black background?) How
about some wisps of flaming sulfur fumes? (OK, I know you said you were
finished - but I like this picture so much maybe I'll have to play with it a
little myself!...)

See ya,
Dave

I would swap that burning man for something a bit more realistic (anybody
got some Poser model to contribute to Rune?), and I would add some
radiosity. Otherwise, very nice. I really like that burst.inc. It looks
cool. I would love to see it animated.

Excellent!
It doesn't look computer generated at all, except maybe for the 'bursts'
closest to the camera.

Maybe focal blur will help? But then, that would slow down the scene veeery
much. Sigh...

Funny, my thought was that in this particular scene it wouldn't make a big
difference since the figure is barely more than a silhouette.

> and I would add some radiosity.

I'm using some weird lightning settings, so I have no idea what radiosity
would do to this. My computer is too slow to do radiosity experiments, and I
have absolutely no experience with radiosity anyway, but the source code is
available, so feel free to experiment on your own, and let me know if you
get some interesting results!

It really isn't that great animated. The burst isn't based on any real
physics at all, so even though it looks nice in images, it looks fake when
animated.

No, those are not meant to be hot gaseous glowing emanations specifically.
They're just textures, and I don't know exactly what they're supposed to be,
but I thought it looked good. :)

I don't know what a wisp of flaming sulfur fume looks like...
Any hints? Or better, any net images?

My images are never so finished that it's too late to change them... :)

Please let me know if you get any interesting results!

I do appologise, I thought it was for the Worship round, or has that closed
? as I said I dont follow the stills (although I might start now as I have
just got connected to the net on a fixed monthly fee - no more phone bills
!)

> I'm not going to participate in the IRTC right now.

It's quite a commitment isn't it - my latest ANIM entry has basically taken
all my spare time over the last three months.

Great scene anyway.
