They are shockwaves that occur when the gases coming out of the
thrusters go from being supersonic to sub-sonic. Any decent picture of
the Space-shuttle taking off also has them.

Hah! I don't remember ever seeing the effect, but if I had I would have
assumed it was some kind of lens flare effect.

IMHO this would be one of those times when reality looks fake. 'Scuse me,
I'm just off to criticise the clouds.

Wanna fight? ;) Well, it will have to be one of those IMHO/IMO things - the
only thing I'd add is that salt water environments and non-faded colours are
not something you come across often.

Well, the flags certainly are... startling, and they do bring contrast into
the image. Frankly, I'm not sure what to think. On one hand, they add a
certain novelty to the design. On the other hand, they diminish the
perceived scale of the objects - especially the platform. Perhaps they
should be a bit less massive; and a bit less bright, lest they distract too
much from the rest of the image.
One more thing: the second flag from the right looks strange where it cuts
the spray, maybe you should try to fix this.

Aren't those conical / paraboloid in shape?

However, It's not the best picture. The next time you see a documentary
of the Challenger blow-up, look at the main engine ignition during the
last seconds of the countdown, it's very obvious.

Why are all tropical shirts bright colored, then? ;) And who said the sea
in the pic was salt water? Perhaps it's an artificial environment, or a
planet where the salt hasn't been leached for millenia into the sea, so it's
not salty. And maybe it *is* a celebration, and those canvasses aren't up
every day?

Ok, enough. I like em, and you don't. HE Day has to make the final call.

It's a cunning ploy invented by the residents to allow them to quickly
distinguish newcomers, ripe for ripping off. Bright shirts, newcomers, sell
'em the bridge. Faded colours, residents or jaded tourists, not a hope in
hell.

The banners are...surprising. They look like they have holes in them, as
if they have been there for a while, a permanent fixture.
They seem to be designed to make the fortress more visible...I'm not
sure if that would be desired or not. Maybe useful for blimps coming in
to dock when the fortress is down in the fog and mist. They seem to "cut
into" the spray unrealistically.
I'd like to see some different colors on the blimps, maybe color codes
for passengers and types of cargo, and it looks like those blimp
thrusters are going to just blast a hole through the cloth. Maybe it's
some kind of air brake or sail to keep the blimp stationary with respect
to the surrounding air, and would only be deployed with the engines
inactive, but that doesn't explain why the station has them.
The station thrusters still don't look right, and the station still
looks too glossy and shiny to me, especially with those patches which
look like rust.
And the fortress looks very much like a tower now...if I hadn't seen the
earlier versions, I would think it extended all the way down. Maybe make
the lower portion visible through the mist, or shorten it so it doesn't
extend into the mist...or lower the mist, which would also avoid the
problem with the banners.
