"News Flash.

Muggle photographs of the famous Hogwarts School for Magicians have just
surfaced. Obviously smuggled out of the area and having avoided all magic
detection, these are the first known photographs available to muggles ever
published."

01 is the castle
02 is Hagrid's looking back towards the castle

The ground is bizarre... the trees are too. I'm experimenting. The ground
is a three level texture. I've got more work to play with. It is not bad
in the distance, but up close, it gets an alien look to it.

Enjoy.

I've got a picture in my head after reading the books... there are some
details that escape me at this point. I'll have re-read the books to get a
better idea of things I may have missed. My 13-year old tells me the castle
is on a hill and the great hall is off to the left after you enter the main
doors. The whomping willow is supposed to be off to the left from Hagrid's
(02), but in my mind, I have it to the right and behind Hagrid's. The lake
is also behind Hagrid's.

Half the job is in just getting the objects to place on the terrain. I can
move things around after I've got them created. That actually is the easy
part.

The castle needs a few more towers as well.

My image was always of a taller structure. I (perhaps incorrectly) remember
harry looking up at the castle from the lake on his first time there, so it
has to be on a hill or something. They also talk about lots of floors and
going up and down lots of stairs, so I'd think you'd want something taller
and less wide.

Just my thoughts.

Geoff

This is pretty much my impression. Also, I don't recall a moat, just a lake.
To be honest, I don't find the books that evocative of place. Gormanghast -
now there's a castle....

I always thought of it like the one in Bavaria built by King Kudwig II.

Kudwig? ;) Hmm, I hadn't thought of it as that "clean" - I imagined it as
more gothic. I'm not sure if all this speculation indicates that the book is
more visual than I thought or less so.... The difference of opinion would
seem to indicate the latter. Anyway, way OT. (But give me Phillip Pullman
anyday of the week).

Impressive. I'm not sure how realistic it is but I think the atmosphere is very
good, especially in the second image (#2). I didn't have a clear picture of the
castle but would have thought it to be a bit less smooth and wellstructured, a
bit more chaotic and higher. That is of course the thing that also happens every
time you see a movie after a book you read. It's always different from what you
pictured it to be. I wonder what the Potter-movie will bring. I read they had an
American kid playing Harry... shudder...
Anyway, great images, I always like your architectural scenes.
