Pretty.

I just need something to do with them...

Time to render a glass house and a bucket of stones to throw...

I remember seeing blocks like this upstairs in a gouvernment
building, though they look very interesting and could really
be made to be an important feature of a living space, I've
only ever seen them in places where the designers didn't
care what the place looked like.

They'd be great for a partial wall surrounding an area in
a back garden, something to stop the dog from escaping
but doesn't block all the light from the back of the
house.

I always loved those kind of glass bricks. They look great, such colored
ones in a wall...

I also saw one inside some time ago. They are actually made of 2 half
parts, connected. That makes air inside.. They are not massive.. Also,
the color doesn't come from the glass itself. It's only colored with
some kind of paint, on the inside.

Just in case this helps you... ;o)
You've made the best such bricks I've seen raytraced so far.

Hugo

Rendering time was not so insane. I re-rendered it at 1024x768 to make a
screen background, and it "only" took about 10 hours using my
dual-PII/450+p200 cluster.

The colour does not come from the bricks themselves, but from three
lights (red, green and blue) behind them. No dispersion here.

If you want to do someting with plenty of glass bricks, there's the
'school of fine arts', by Wiel Arets, in Maastricht, Holland.
Right now, I've been unable to find a photograph of it, but I
will search again...

Oh, there's also "la maison de verre" (glass house) in Paris (15), by
Pierre Chareau.
http://www.culture.fr/culture/inventai/itiinv/archixx/imgs/p26-03.htm

And I found a page that lists some famous projects using glass bricks :
(but no images, it seems)
http://www.archinform.de/start.htm?page=/projekte/3118.htm
