I consider this a finished image but would like comments.
Thanks!

Oh, never say "finished", that's taboo.
This is a nice stylized set of pieces although I can't help but think the
crown crosses are somewhat fragile. And the texture appears both chalky and
polished at the same time meaning it might need some reflection to go with
the highlights. There may be some already (took me a moment to realize the
board has reflection) but I could readily see it if so.
Are you a modeler user or hand-coder?

Bob

I could probably do with some rescaling of the cross on the king, I didn't
notice the slightly disproportionate shape until after I had it sent. As for
the reflection, there may not be some for the pieces themselves, since they are
seperate textures from the board squares.
Everything was hand-coded, except for the bases of most of the pieces, they were
done as lathes in a program called SpilinEditor, and the knight piece which was
done in Spatch.

The environment looks.. odd. The bases of the figures look a little
large, and they could use a little reflection to go with the highlights
(or else make the highlights a bit duller, which will give you a
convincing plastic look, but you probably didn't mean for these to be
plastic). The shading is pretty dull; what are you using for fill
lighting, ambient? Radiosity, or at least some area lights, would look better.

I hate to think of what this chess set must weigh. ;)

double the height of the pieces, and make the baord much thinner, should
look more elegant

I think that you need to pay some more attention
to the lighting, maybe add some area lights.

A pattern on the pieces would improve this a lot,
something like wood or marble maybe, the pieces
look a bit plane at the moment though the modelling
is good.

The edging that surrounds the board seems a bit obtrusive,
and obstructs the view of the bottom of the white pieces,
I'd make that surround level with the playing board, and
much thicker (horizontally), which would give the board
a more grandiose feeling.

The ground/table and sky could either do with being much
more plane, or much more ordinary, say wood for the
table and blue for the sky whith whisps of white cloud.

Though I mention many possible changes above, these are
only small compared to the amount of work that you've
already put into this, so don't be discouraged, and
remember to let us see the finished article.

Wow! I started a chess set but have not worked on it much. The board looks
thick. The crosses look very fragile.
