Here is what I have been working on today...I realize that the
glasses' left lens is floating a bit, I will rectify that. BTW the
books title is "Alkemikal Formulae"... I thought that the old spelling
would work. Comments, suggestions?

I think you should reduce the number of light sources, the many shadows are
quite irritating. I also wonder why the book cover looks much brighter through
the glasses. The book itself looks good.

I think he used transmit instead of filters in the glasses' material.
Nice book and very nice pages (maybe a little yellow if the book is
supposed to look old?). However the back needs to be rounded (end the
pages could be too although it's not as important)...

Yeah, I agree about the shadows, I just wanted to see all the
details...these objects are going to be part of a larger scene. Thanks

Yup, used transmit (doh!) that will be fixed. The pages are simply a
scaled cube with a wrinkle pattern applied. I thought they came out
pretty nice as well. Believe it or not, the spine is rounded, but for
some reason it didn't render that way...very weird...gotta check that
out. BTW you are right about the pages needing to be yellowed. a
bit...maybe some scuff marks ont the cover too.

Looks good! I really like the pages.
However, the patterns on the cover look a little too thick. I don't think
the symbols and text should be big enough to cast such big shadows.
Also, if the book is old (hence the title), the pages should be yellower.
They look too bleached for this time period.

Actually, a lot of books from the time period that this book is
supposed to be from had metal symbols/words affixed to the cover. That
was the vibe I was going for.

"Alchemikal" or even "Alkhemikal" would be better imho; -khem- is the
oldest part of the word. (The art was associated with al-Khem, an
Arabic name for a country in North Africa, I forget which.)

Whups, I got that a bit twisted. According to the nearest etymological
dictionary (which I was too lazy to consult *before* posting -- bad
Anton bad!) the Greeks called it `khemia' after the Black Land (Egypt),
Arabs borrowed that word, and Europe picked it up again from the Arabs
with `al-' attached.
(`khem-' is not in my Greek dictionary in either spelling. Grump.)
