Hi all,
Well, I've found myself posting here for the first time with my first
image, I'm quite pleased with it. I have found that quite a lot of 'process
of elimination' goes into producing an image.
It's been great fun doing it, and I look forward to any comments/advice.

~Steve~

   Thanks again Kari.....

Well, i'm not so sure about the meaning of your picture, but it's quite
promising for a first try. Textures look already good, you should try using
antialiasing. (would avoid the "stair effect" on the floor/edge of the sphere)

When i started using Pov, i did not work that much on complicated lighting at
first and focussed more on modelling/texturing, but you should not take this as
an advice, but find your own way.

Thank you Christoph. There isn't a meaning for it, unless of course,
the word 'abstract' comes into it ;o) I was going to call it 'Shades' as in
sunglasses!

    This is good, thanks.

Basically, I used the first instructions in the help file to set up
an image and added other items like reflection and so on. I then had a good
play with this, this being the one I liked the best out of possibly 30/40
different images, (same image, different angles, textures, etc). This is
what I like about POV-Ray, you can come up with anything and change it
around. For my next project, I would like to do a specific item - perhaps
you could suggest a title Christoph, I would then have something to work
with. I have titles, but i'm just wondering what an experienced 'Pover' can
come up with for a newbie ;o)

     Glad you liked it,
                                  ~Steve~

Eliminate the house work, eliminate taking the dog for a walk, eliminate
watching TV, eliminate answering the phone, eliminate so-called friends.
Then I'm ready for a perfect day, just me and the code.

You seem to have all the essentials here for a first image, and it's
different. Makes me think of an umbilical chord, if someone unplugs me from
POV, I'm sure I'll die.

Nice work.

A good start!

Why am I not surprised it's a reflective sphere on a checkered floor?
:))

On the other hand, it has a nice twist which renders (pun intended) it
unique.

Thanks Pete. As a beginner, I used the info that was available, ie; the
sphere, the box, the cone, and changed everything around. The cone at one
time, wasn't a cone!
I was going to put two more 'cones' there, as legs, so as to have the
sphere standing on three legs, but I will save that one for later! ;o)
The bit that I liked the most about this image, is the sharp point at the
bottom of the 'box' nearest you. This was supposed to be a 'box embedded in
a sphere', but somehow the box has 'lifted' off the sphere, (although, still
embedded). I think this is due to the lighting that I have used.

Pretty good for a first! I like the texture blending on the sphere. Maybe you
should try some surface normals now...

I love the way the box and the sphere merge in and out from each
other.
The green is very mysterious.

Playing with Pov is the best way to discover, I think.

When I first started poving I was amazed at the possibilities
(and difficulties) of {difference}.

Have fun,
Peter

      Thanks Peter,
it was just a mess around really. Yes, the
green light is a mystery to me too. I think it got there when I was
experimenting with the checkered floor :o)
The box is the best bit about it, I think. Originally, the box looked as
though it was joined to the sphere, but it just goes to show what power Pov
has, because that effect was ahieved just by moving the lights around.

Glad you liked it, anyway. ~Steve~ :o)
