Thought I'd try once again to render a still image of my Martian Dust Storm
animation after tweaking on the media some more. Only a one hour render
here but it got too boring for me to keep seeing what I wasn't happy with
over and over. So this may be final unless I stumble into a better "dust".
I could paint this up better in a epaint program I think :-)
Btw, I've also redone the animation and removed the other ones:

the only problem i see with the dust is that the boundaries are much too
prominant.

Yep, need a blob pattern like MegaPov has except for using with media.
If that can be done already I'm missing out then. Maybe I should check on
that.

The blob pattern and blob pigment were originally intended for use with
media...and they are still most useful as media densities.

I knew I should have paid more attention to it the first time I heard of it.
Thing is that I was seeing it as a new pigment pattern specifically for blobs
and not for anything else like media.
Thanks so much for clarifying that. I read about it in the documentation
and overlooked the media I guess, thinking it was all about pigment or texture
being applied to follow blobs better.
Now I'm going to have to dig into something I don't know and redo this thing
yet again.
You still have my thanks though.

Bob

Actually, I doubt it would be very useful for blobs...at least, not when
using the same blob components as the blob object. The current texture
blending works just as well, and you would have to go to special effort
to make sure the pattern lined up properly.

I posted a couple media "fire worm" images here when I was developing
it, you might look at those. Another thing it is useful for is as an
isosurface pigment function, which is especially interesting when used
with turbulence.

Oh well, worth a try to see what all it can do anyhow.
And yep, I remember the examples of that now. Thought all that was
something to do with particle-making instead.
As a isosurface that could get interesting for sure, although I could probably
forget about animation if both isosurface and media were used. For now anyway.

Well, that was one of the uses I was thinking of, using blob components
in the pattern to represent particles and using the whole thing in a
media density.

The isosurfaces using this pattern were actually fairly fast rendering,
especially when compared to some other patterns. It is one of the few
patterns that works fine as-is instead of mostly being useful as a
displacement pattern. Still, with media, even with method 2 or 3...I
guess it depends on the size of your animation.
