Still a work in progress, based on the artwork from Jeff Wayne's War of the
Worlds album.

Any suggestions on how to do the Heat Ray ?

Regards,

Peter H.

Cool spider!

But what happens when it lifts one of the legs?
Does it jump, or is it just sliding the legs along the floor?

And what kind of album is War of the Worlds?

It shifts it weight onto two legs and moves the third, don't ask me to
animate it, I have no idea how :)

War of the Worlds is a musical version of the H.G. Wells Novel, it stars the
voice talents of Richard Burton, Phil Lynott, David Essex plus others its a
classic. Worth looking for.

Peter H.

Oooohhhhhhhhh. MINE! As for the heat ray, in the movie, they had these
glowing, red hot cylinders... like lots of hot needles coming at you.
Try that...

Stomps Spark Generator might be worth a try for that. The URL 404's but I have
it here if you want it.
When I made that heatray before I only used a cylindrical media with the
frequency turned up so that's a possibility.

Wasn't it a green ray?

Did you see the film Peter? I seem to remember that the tripods had a
telescopic 3-faceted eye thingy... perhaps it's worth putting another tripod
in the final render with some rubble around it?

Good legs, but I think the feet could do with some more details... mind you,
I haven't looked at the album cover for a while so I couldn't say how they
looked!

<sigh> I 'spose I'd better get on with my old renderings :-)

Cheers

Steve

No, they had two weapons. The Heat Ray and some Green Beam that took of
the skin so they could some cool effect in which you saw the dead guys
bones, then those disappeared too. Tanks just flared green, though, and
went bye-bye. I think the Green Beam was just in the movie though...

You might try making a global media and shoot a cylinder light_source out from
it. You have to have MegaPov or Superpatch for the cylinder light though.

I've read all the comments here now, and the idea of using a cone filled
with media is good. It's easy to point it at some object and stuff.

The heat ray is red/orange. In the original novel, AFAIK, there were no
other weapons aboard the tripods. The legs are good, but on the computer
game-cover, which is true to the album, I thnik, there are some wires
connecting the first part of the leg to the "corner" (don't know the proper
English term) of the leg And there were also a supporting rod from the body
to the middle of the last part of each leg. At last, there were also some
tentacle-kind of things hanging from the belly.

This was a lot of detail, and I am only describing the front cover of the
game-box, as you can see. But I also remember reading the comic version, and
the tripods were much alike.

What about blob-modelling one of those martians? Squid-like bastards with
long, slimy tentacles.. Ahh...

For anyone interested:
I've created a realaudio clip (quite hq) from the cd I have:
http://www.uio.no/~simenkv/film/eve_of_the_war.ram . It's quite cool, I
think! Inspirational... Use .rm if you want to download the whole bastard
before you play. (~3.5 MB).

Simen.
