I haven't posted any pics in a long time, so here's what I'm working on
just to give you a peek; my brother's Lionel O27-gauge Kansas City
Southern GP-38 diesel engine :-)
This is just the motor housing, I haven't modelled the car hitches or
the suspension yet. I've started some work on the undercarriage and body
though.
I may do some cars if/when I finish this.

An animation w/ the belts would be cool...
If you get time...
Inform me if you post an animation, or just send me a movie to e-mail...
I don't visit the animation's group...

Wow, a comment!

Belts? It's all gears...
This isn't a major part of the train; the cab is much more prominent. I've
completed a large portion of the cab and engine housing (where the engine
components would go in a real one (the big long part behind the cab), not where
the motor goes in the model), but the suspension is going to be a real pain in
the arse.
Expect it sometime next millenium as I'm not POVing very much at all lately and
I'm doing several simultaneous projects in it.

I'm a sucker for trains David, real or models. Your motor housing looks pretty
good to me. Have you used either mine, or Marc Schimmler's macros for the
gears? You can find mine on http://www.hamiltonite.com

I like the way you are putting all that detail work in on the motor housing when
most of it will be hidden by the body. No, I'm not being sarcastic! I also tend
to put in a lot of detail that will never be seen. It's asthetically pleasing
in a realistic model to have the details right. Look forward to seeing more.

No, I made my own gears with some simple loops inside prisms. I like to make my own
stuff when at all possible, that's just the way I am :-)

Yes, I do that all the time, like LEGO pieces on the inside of the model. Also, that
way you can show any view of any section at any angle and it will still be
realistic. I don't do this very much, but also it is good to have detail behind the
camera in case it is reflected.
Work is going veeery slow, so don't hold your breath...
