This is beautiful! It looks great, especially at this resolution.
The sky looks perfect, even with the purplish tint. The brightness is
just right, it doesn't need any gamma correction on my Mac. The horizon
looks good, I like the way it gets hazy in the distance.
The ground looks like it is covered with some kind of low growing plant,
it doesn't really look grassy. Maybe if you sprinkled a couple clumps of
grass here and there, and some boulders...but I would be afraid to ruin
the effect of the picture.
I am going to try this as a desktop picture.

Is is just my monitor or is there a lot of banding that reminds me of

BTW, I'm glad you liked this little quote but I didn't make up the
concept. I heard something extremely similar and took it as my personal
motto with a slight change in the wording. If there is someone out there
who -did- make this up and you want to claim credit that is OK with me.

Oh, gosh - it's *still* beautiful at even this higher resolution!
Thanks, Abe and Mr. Art.

There seems to be banding on my monitor also, but
I think it comes from the cloud method and not
the monitor.

Looking at it further it appears to be rows of cloudbanks. Maybe a ripples
texture in the media?

Wow,
Quite an enthusiastic response to your beautiful image.
There does seem to be a quest for the Holy Grail of Clouds.
Thank you for the posting of the source, as well as mr. art's
prompt rendering.
It is obvious from your reply that you realize any limitation
of your work better than most.
Other than the banding in the middle level range of clouds
I can not see many problems.
For me the strongest aspect of this image is the representation
of the sun.
It almost hurts my eyes to look at it, but still I cannot turn away.
Good luck in further efforts!

It's not included in the megapov yet (so many things to do,
so little time...) It adds a sample_spacing keyword which
specifies the max distance allowed between two samples
(provided you don't go over the max samples).
If you're interrested, the source patch for uvpov6.2 is at
http://www.enst.fr/~jberger/sources/mpov.tgz
If enough people ask me, I'll try harder to make time to
include it with megapov...

No, it's a problem with media methods 2 and 3... The
sample_spacing patch should help there too, if I ever
integrate it with megapov...

Hey Abe you've done it again, your images always look great.
There's a slight purple tinge to the sky that doesn't look
realistic, but this defect is something you see all the time
in photographs, I even notice it in very high quality
photographic work.
