Kind of misty in there, no obvious light shining in to explain it as dust
illumination. Nice architecture. Somehow there seems too much of a washed
out appearence, maybe should be dark in the recesses.

I like this a lot. Fantastic.
Is that a blob man I see standing near the altar?
Cheers

Yes, that's right. I used the fog to give the scene a dreamy aspect. However, I
realise that this is not realistic. Unfortunately I am still struggling with
media. That would certainly give a better scene.
You are right (and I have to check the code), I think I used a couple of
shadowless lights inside. No good of course! I remember putting it/them in because
I felt the scene was too dark... I should make some candles perhaps...
Sunlight is shining from the outside (hence the illumination on one of the pillars
from a stained glass window), but I need to give the whole thing more
atmosphere...
Thanks a lot! Shall work on it

Thanks!
No. It is not a blob. Just a very simple manniquin constructed with spheres
and cylinders. Since then however, I madea nother manniquin (no blob) but
with IK features. Certainly not realistic but useful to give the impression
of size.
Still have a lot of work to do on this I am afraid. Especially the media is
a tricky affair!
Thomas.

It's an impressive impression. I like the columns and the arches. There's
something wrong with the windows and the floors though. The windows seem to be a
bit too cheerful. As for the floor: I don't believe you'll find such a floor in
a Roman church, at least not that smooth and IF the architects would have used a
diagonal tiling I think they would try to fit it better round the base of the
columns and the floors. You can't have a sloppy mess in a holy place ;-)
Oh, yeah: I also like the atmosphere but the walls seem a bit too smooth too.

As for the concept, great... The man gives a good sense of proportion to the
image. but the colours in the windows should be far darker. As for the floor, I
don't think a texture is fitting for this sort of scene. I'd go more for several
boxes, slightly "off" in size, with a texture that is randomly
transformed/translated on each, just to get rid of the regularity.
prepare for a huge memory hit if you do this though... (See my post "memory
optimization" in povray.text.scene-files )

Hmmm...! Yes, that really seems interesting. Never thought about that. Windows could
indeed be darker (simple!); as far as the floor is concerned: Texture was of course
the
first choice, simple, fast. I agree, the regularity of both the tiles and the textures
is too artificial. I shall try to think this through... Yeah, memory... I have a jaz
drive, so that's not too much of a problem, but I suppose that rendering time
increases
proportionately, hmmm? I'll have a look at your post.
Thanks a lot :-}

Additionally, reading your "memory" post: Do you know the "Genesis Toolkit"? Probably
yes... It is rather convenient for placing underbrush of trees in a scene. It takes
memory and rendering time (depending on the size of the scene and the number of
objects)
but generally speaking I find it very fast anyway. Just in case, this is the URL:

Hmm. It looks like a cross between Gothic and Romanesque. It's kind of an
anachronism that way.

Gothic? Not really! At least not the later Gothic (Flamboyant) style. The
exterior, not visible in the image of course :-} , is based on an 11th century
French church. The interior is derived from that, using "plein cintre" arches
(how do you say that in English?) and not the typical 'broken' arches of the
Gothic style. However, I admite that the textures used do not suggest the
Romanesque style. It should indeed be much more sober.
