After many test-renders, I scrapped the idea of trying to make things seem huge ( if
at
first you don't succeed, just give up..right? ) and just added these textures. A sandy
ground, and a strange sort of silky/rocky texture on the uprights. I wanted the bases
to
appear as though sand has been blown and lodged in the crevices.
I'm happy with it anyway, so I consider it done.

I think it is a very good image! Creative and with a good composition. Good
use of the focal blur too (you used a high sample rate, didn't you?).
Still, as a minor point: In my eyes the slates surely look large/huge and
the thingy in the middle small (in comparison). But then I would expect that
thingy to be totally in focus, while only the slabs would be blurred. Which
leads me to my minor point: The blurring of the uppermost point (to close to
the camera to be in focus I guess) breaks this effect. I would like to see
the "thingy" crisp sharp.

Really good, 800x600 would be nice.
You went with your own ideas in the end and it all paid off.
The sand on the ground is very realistic.

I still like it a lot. But instead of anything like huge, it looks
microscopic to me. Maybe not the pillars, but the "city" sure does. Not sure
why. I wish I had the solution...

I love that star shape! It looks great.
I think the distances give it a good 3D feel. Regarding the
focal blur, as Johannes Hubert pointed out the star shape
should be crisp especially that upper left point which is closest.

Looks beatiful.
The only thing I think needs improvement is the sky but maybe it's the
focal blur (assuming your using it, atleast it looks like it)

I really like the new textures, it adds a lot to the image as such. The o
nly
thing I'm reacting on is the "regularness" of the bumps on the ground. A
bit
more turbulent?
