Well, I recently had someone ask me how to convert my scene Darklight
into POVRay 3.1 since I had made extensive use of atmosphere in the
image. Last night, avoiding my mounds of schoolwork, I made an
attempt. The images aren't the same, but I think they are rather
close. Since you have seen the original, I will post the new image and
the link to the one on my web page. Let me know what you think.

Steve

I don't recall the first image but as a stand alone image this example
speaks well for the ability of media to produce atmospheric effects.
That is of course if the render time was under a hour or two.

I'll go look now at the referenced image and see how well it does compare.

I like the visibility in the original more so than the media version.
The media seems to really cut down on the visiblility of the objects in
the scene. I have had similar problems and have as yet not found a way
around it. I think Pov needs a different sampling method than the one
that is currently employed. These opinions are my own and do not
necessarily reflect the views of the Pov team or the mistress of the
President of the United States.

First, the render was in the ballpark of 1 hr at maximum priority.
Second, I agree that it makes items less visible, but I think it carries
more substance to it, like there is an actually cloud of dust which is
obscuring your objects. With atmosphere it isn't quite like that...
Also, I have yet to fully experiment, but I know which parameters to
play with.

Could you post the parameters you used for that please? I've had
some successes with object media, but not atmospheric media.
