Hi

Another pic in progreesssss

Before I attempt the final detailing I thought I'd ask for your esteemed
comments, thoughts, criticisms etc.

The water will have a touch of refectivity, a smidgin of transparency, eye
of toad and leg of frog, and maybe some fade depth and power in the water
interior statement - is that right? is that where you put it? (no rude
answers please)

I want to use an area light rather than a a point light to soften the
shadows - to keep the light low, how about a 16*2 or 4 array?

There is a problem with the sail - the old double-illumination bug I think,
as the sail should be a very, very dark brown!

I shall also add a touch of foam to the waves but I'm still workin on the
precise texture fer that!

All the best to you all

Mick

And a beautiful seascape it is sir. I think you have nailed the
swell surge through the rocks and I find it entirely believable.

I have not used the fade option with media myself so can not offer
any advice in this area. Other than a few of the areas you mentioned
you will be working on I noticed the visibility through the water
as you have it specified for this image is a little too clear. You
can clearly see through the wave down to the base of the rocks and
it gives the impression of looking through hand crafted glass
and not a body of water.

But I assume you already noticed this as well. I don't really think
that having a lot of transparency is necessary for this type of image.
I have spent many hours surf fishing around rocks like these and most
of the time I get frustrated at not being able to see more than a foot
or so down into the water. The old "if I could just see the fish I could
catch them" school of thinking.

It really varies by situation too much for me to try to advise you
on a given array amount. They have always required a fair amount of
tweaking when I have used them in a scene and have not found a
universal plug it in and go statement for using them.

Which version of Pov are you using right now ? That should be fixed
in V3.1e which is available at the pov home page.

I just had a thought about that. I wonder if Chris Colefax's particle
generator include file could be coerced into giving you a foam like
substance. It is a flexible little utility and it has features that
lend themselves well to water related environments.

  And you sir.

I looking forward to seeing the results when it is finished. You are
definitely making strides in this area of Pov artistry.

Good picture, good atmosphere, great sea!
But, there is always a but, it also shows how difficult it is to picture the
sea, something that is never the same. Somehowe it looks static. Maybe you
need just a little bit of motion blurr on it (and water splashing against
the cliffs).

trace on,

Great image.

Different coloured rocks please, (different to the sea).

Yep, 'interior {fade_distance 10 fade_power 1}' ,or whatever, ought to
help. A ground fog would be best to simulate depth though in such a
nonflat object doubt you'd be able to--- no wait a minute... if you
don't have anything else that requires hollow you could cut it off above
the surface by enclosing above water with a inverted water object that
isn't hollow and offset just above or below the first maybe.
And I do mean maybe.

The rocks suffer from a lack of depth, as though lit from the front, or just ambient
lighting. I really like the sky.

Send Bob the code, it sounds as though he knows what he's on
about.

Cheers

Hey now, I wouldn't mind that at all ;)
Only thing is I never seem to get email with a subject line stating
"POV". I never open email unless I know the name or it really sounds
pertinent to POV. I've deleted ones that say "Income for free", "How
about this", and the infamous "Hello, don't I know you?".
Seriously though people, if you never heard from me it's most likely
because the word "POV was not present in the subject line.
So please.... Hate to think I've mass deleted legit email.
