Here's a tree converted from a 3d studio model. Very little
texture so far.
It looks ok I suppose... but it isn't exactly feasible on a large scale
due to the fact
that it is composed of nothing but triangles. I think rendering more
than a few of these
would strain MOST of our machines here. (I didn't make this model!,
just converted
and rendered it!) If anyone wants the pov source for this tree, let me
know.
I'll zip it and send.

Question: Anyone know of a program that will allow manipulation of
separate objects
inside a 3d studio model? (I don't want to use 3d studio for something
so simple)

I hope that I shall never see...

It is indeed a lovely tree. One question though. Is that checker floor
default behavior for 3D studio too ?
It's everywhere. It's everywhere. Ahhhhhhhh.....

Hmm, My checkered plane revolted on me. It broke out of its two dimentional
prison and reached for new heights. :-)

Let's see if I'am gettin' better. Two planes. One with the larger
checkers completly opaque and one half the size of the first that
filters. A glass cylinder and a sphere?

I like it!

Actualy there are three primatives in the scene. A box, the cylinder
sticking out of it a ways, and the sphere planted in the middle.
The checker pattern was created using several nested checker patterns
inside the same pigment. At the same time I created an identical checker
pattern for a normal statement to give the pattern a sense of depth.
It looks better on some surfaces that others with this really not one
of the better surfaces I have tried it on.

Take a look at this next variation on the checker pattern. I could
not begin to explain the construction of this. It can only say
that it is a very complicated texture and is made of at least 14
nested pigment and normal patterns.

This is a nice really interesting texture. I can see that it's still
symmetric!
As you said. The checker floor is everywhere. It just hides well!
