Great image.
How about sharing the code for the sea.

Lance,
I know how but I'm not going to tell you. It's a secret.
Jim,
Impressive improvement over the last one. I have been toying with
a couple of possible alternatives to the process. If I come up with
anything definative I let you know. Right now it is pure theory and
I don't want to embarras myself if wrong.

Hi all
> How about sharing the code for the sea.
I will prepare a short! article on how it was done and ways it could be
improved(when I get time)
The actual code won't help anyone - it's a mess due to all my experiments,
in fact it's reached the stage where I can't understand it!
I'm going to start from scratch using all the experience I've gained.
BTW anyone know any good sites that might help with the making of the wave
HFs...there I've given it away Ken!
All the best
Mick

I have been looking at the incredible number of photo shop effects
plug-ins. I think there is a lot of possibilities available by using
these with simple gradient grayscale images. The majority of the
plug-ins are compatible with versions of PSP v4.0 and latter as well
as the other bigboy high priced image processing programs out there.
I would post a couple links to free plugin pages but you could do
better by using "plugins" or "photoshop plugins" as a search identifier
on yahoo's search engine. I got more hits that I cared to wade through
that way.
I have had some preliminry sucesses using a couple of the plugins
for a different application I was working on. The trick is having a
good base image to start with. I found a pov gernerated grayscale
gradient on a plane one of the better starting places. Use no light
sources and depend entirely on the ambient modifier in the finish
statement. If you use lights and a diffuse surface to illuminate the
pigment you end up with sharp spikes in the color pattern that are
difficult to remove afterward.
Something to consider anyway.

Very nice image! You really captured the nostalgic mood. How did you create the
jumping man though? A model imported from somewhere? An Image Map? Blobs?!? If
its the last then that's amazing. Same question goes for the hands/rocks.

First of all, I really like the concept - and the composition.
The foam certainly looks good, but I suggest using more tubulence and/or a
slightly more softer edges. It seems the foam is following the contours of
the HF trianles too closely (I presume you still use slope-dependent
textures).
I don't know high priority the sky is in this image, but it would need some
work. It's not bad, mind you, but compared to some the truly awesome sky
scenes it lacks some realism.

he he he, I thought it might have been something like that (height fields
that is)... There is an incredible program in the "high end" market which
uses a similar technique... I can't remember what it's called, but it was
the same one used to make the waves in Titanic (the CGI scenes anyway, not
the real footage!!! ;-)
I think it was something like $15000 (RIP OFF!!!)
Have you tried animating this yet? If it's at all possible I'm sure the
results would look fantastic!
Also, maybe try using a noise based image modifier... like perlin noise...
could yeild interesting results... (not sure if it'd make good waves though,
but worth a try).
