You should know better than to post a hit and run message like
this. When people post new proceedures like this others want some
basic information provided along with it. These are going to be
the typical questions that only you can provide so lets get it
out of the way in one message.
What was the render time ?
How much memory was required ?
Where can I get a copy of this ?
Was the object count very high for this image ?
Was the macro easy to use or is it complicated ?
How much pigment control does the process offer ?
Is this going to be leading edge technology or what ?
Are there limits as to what can be used as the base object ?
Should I get my hair cut today or should I put it off until tomorrow ?

I really like cats, but at first glance I thought this was a
ferrit.
The ears could have had the macro applied to them independently
from the body, and had shorter hair on them.

Sorry, it was just a very quick test with very bad parameters. I posted
a second try with a lot more better settings (I'm talking about the hair
macro settings).
Most of the questions are answered there, but I'll try to answer those
which aren't:

I don't think that the macro is publicly available yet. You have to ask
to Chris Colefax for more information.

The parameters may be a little tricky to understand, but after some
trial-error testing good values can be found. The example files of
course help a lot.

I haven't studied this part of the macro yet. I don't know what to
answer.

Does the name "Chris Colefax" sound familiar to you?-)

It works with triangle meshes only. Perhaps in the future it will work
with bicubic patches too (the mesh compressor program supports them
already).

I would really like to know the object count and memory used.
The hair looks good. The self-shadowing of the hair is a problem, but damned
if I know how to overcome it in POV.
It's obvious that Chris's macro allows a far greater number of hairs than
mine. Being somewhat familiar with his method, I'm not surprised. I still
like to think that my macro allows greater control over the shape of the
hair (and isn't limited to meshes). But that's as may be.
