I have linked this mpeg as it is very large and I'm trying to get it
smaller. I don't know how to make quality mpegs that are managable in size.

I took one of the fish models from
http://www.toucan.co.jp/product/3ds/3dsFrameSetE.html
(Gilles Tran posting "Free Fish and plant Models" Aug 2)
and made a macro that adds a sine wave to the y axis.
Each fish has it's own scale, frequency, phase shift, and
amplitude of sine, however some are too closely matched.

The fishes look good.
I'am no diver but I think the "nose" of each of them
is moving too much from left to right,
this looks a bit like as if they were swimming snakes ;-).
Maybe you should align the head to the path they're swimming along...
Oh and they intersect (and it ain't spring anymore :-) )

To save the file from the webpage, go to the Quicktime settings and tell it
to retain a copy in your disk cache. Then you can do a Find, copy the file, and
paste it anywhere you want.

Yes the head is a bit too flexible and moving a too much, and they are
moving into each other (Discovery Channel?). I'll have to adjust that and
render it again.

Pretty nice. You have the "mood" right. Should there be some occasional
use of the small fins?
One trick for MPG compression is to turn off the audio. Some compilers
might put a blank audio track in unless you specifically ask them to turn it
off.

Greg, thanks. I could go in to isolate the vertexes of the fins, it be an
interesting tangent. This doesn't exactly emit a feeling of "loneliness"
so I won't have to have it done by Aug 31 (IRTC deadline?).
I'll check into the audio. I used TMPGEnc 2.5 and I didn't notice an option
for audio but I'll look closer. I really wanted to go from bitmap frames
to mpeg movie but the TMPGEnc application I downloaded only lets me convert
movies, not create them?

I don't know about TMPGEnc as I haven't used it. My favourite encoder
though is VideoMach (http://www.gromada.com/), I find it very versatile for
encoding in many different formats. Every time you open it asks about
registering though, you just have to ignore this as it is free for
non-commercial use.

My anim idea so far may show contempt for topicality as it's "simply

Looks pretty good, but to me it seems that the movement the fins make is to
weak, it's like if the fish were pulled by some string or a current. So I'd
vote for more agreessive fins. :)

I think you hit on something there, water current of a stream as fish try to
stay in one place. If the fish moved a little forward then a little backward
with some speed changes to coincide I think they'd look very good for that.
I'm curious how those models were adapted to POV-Ray so guess I'll need to
take a look at them. Looks pretty realistic at that scale. I must have
missed how that was done.
