So, I've updated the interpolation method to use sine-waves instead of
linear interpolation. Haven't scripted a low-frequency "noise" yet, but that
should be pretty simple. This is also the setup I'll be using to test-run
animations for the mouth, as it shows the original BSpline to the top-left,
the displacement spline to the lower left, the frontal mouth up-right and
the lips+mesh to the lower right.
Displacement is, for now, done in relation to the normal of the lips at a
given point, but I'll have to see if I should just change it to
circular-outwards or such. Maybe even switching between both.
Comments, as always, welcome.
Greets,
Tim

Looks really great Tim! Here's a thought: Is it possible to
make the lips a little pinker than the worm body? And to
do that, I guess it would have to fade from the body color
to a bit redder/pinker color. Just a thought. Will you be
able to do side-mouth expressions too?
What you have there is very impressive!

You should so completely put that little hanging thing in the back of his
mouth. =)

Yes, the epiglottis. A commonly animated appendage.

Hm, right, didn't think of that. I'll see what I can do, but I'm unsure if
I'll find a proper way with things looking smooth...

Thanks!
To make the lips a little pinker, I'd have to orient the spheres and
cylinders making up the curved lips to align with some texture, so that's a
little complicated, but I'll see what can be done without fading, perhaps
just a little subtle color variation. Still, I somehow like it the way it
is, but perhaps I should at least give it a try. Don't know for sure if it
wouldn't even be better.
As for side-mouths: you mean like slightly down to a corner or such, right,
like when cartoon-characters do something like "ooooooh, nice and shiny!"?
That should be possible to a certain degree. The mouth is limited to the
front half of the cylinder, so it won't go 90 degrees sideways, but that'd
look strange anyway...

Um, to be pedantic, you mean the uvula.
The epiglottis is a flap that helps divert food to the stomach instead of
through the vocal chords to the lungs when swallowing. In a human, you'd have
some difficulty seeing an epiglottis on a daily basis. Perhaps it would be
different for a worm.
