Well, I guess this probably would have made a pretty good cyclic animation,
if I hadn't screwed it up!!! There's a lot of room for improvement in other
areas as well. I also made a version of this with that cool music playing,
and a couple of "Yak... yak, yak!"'s, but it's too massive to post. :( Write
me if ya want it.

Wasn't that a great movie? (The real one, that is, not this plagiaristic
imitation!) I just happened to be thinking about it (again) today...

Regards,
Dave

Wow, that does bring back memories. Would have been pretty cool if the
saucers flew more directly through the title, plus the loopability as you
said. Were they that rusty looking? I was thinking they were more of a oily
grimy steel metal.

Why were they ramming the Earth? And why were there no explosions as they hit...
and... COOL!!!!

You're correct - in the movie the saucers were a different texture. I spent
about two hours trying to get it right, but I suck at making textures, so I
cheated.

I corrected the flight path problem and re-rendered the animation, so now
you can see that the saucers are spinning one direction on top and the other
direction on the bottom. I also added atmospheric glow to the Earth (thanks
to Darcy Johnston's atmosphere tutorial), but now the animation's a little
over a megabyte, so I can't post it here. But as always, I'd be happy to
send it to anyone who asks.

Regards,
Dave

Excellent questions. Explosions are always appropriate. Glad you like it!

Still not sure if I liked the film, kinda kinky though. Your anim looks good,
but I noticed that the saucers dissapear in the background, just under the
double 't', as if they are running through the Earth.
You are not alone in doing that sort of thing, George Lucas had Tie fighters
appearing out of nowhere in the original death star scene when Luke and the gang
attacked, he of course fixed it for the digitally enhanced version..

Alex.
