This animation needs to be viewed at a fast speed to look right. The effect
that I was going for was the twisting motion of water coming out of a
faucet, but it's not too apparent, even with a lot of frames. The hardest
part was to exactly balance the amount of water that was draining out of the
bottom of the sink with the water that was flowing in, so the water level
remains constant.

The stream of water is made of 600 blob spheres that spiral downward in
ever-widening paths.

Regards,
Dave

I like the turning faucet handles, and the rest of it too.
That water flow is pretty sizable for that particular size of pipe, under
pressure I guess.
It is fairly slo-mo, yes. Unfortunately I can't speed it up. Looks cool
anyhow.

Like Bob, I could not speed it up either, it does look cool, maybe this would
look better as a water fall rather that a faucet.

I know of one freeware graphic viewer that will play mpgs at a faster speed
than intended (up to 200%), and it's a fantastic program overall - Irfanview
at http://stud1.tuwien.ac.at/~e9227474/

Also, if I had read the docs for the mpg encoder before I deleted all the
still frames I think I could have encoded the animation at a higher frame
rate or something. Oh well.

Dave

I didn't see a 200% speed increase anywhere within IrfanView version 3.10,
only a "Double" in the Options/Video Size menu.
You could always extract the frames and drop half of them out with something
like Video Mach 2 or IrfanView (I didn't get anything usable from IrfanView
though). Cmpeg managed to go to 50 fps upon re-encoding them, 60 fps
introduced artifacts. Usually find Mpeg is limited to 30 fps in most anything
else.
The recompiled drip2.mpg looked a better speed for the water flow, a bit fast
for the faucet handles however, and was only 224KB; but I probably shouldn't
upload it, figure it might be a waste of space here at ~300KBau.

-Don't know when Irfan added the new feature, but it's in v3.17. It's
attached to a funny little button next to the "Stop" button when an mpg file
is opened - the speed range is 5 - 200%. On my computer there is an annoying
pause part way through the animation.

I'm still learning about this mpg stuff - I've always been partial to
lossless formats, but mpg seems to be the "Format of the future..."

Dave

Great, thanks, although I couldn't get to the IrfanView homepage just now.
Mpeg: The format of email and internet at present anyway. ;-)

Bob,
I found artifacts with 60 fps also, but the 59.94 fps gives a useful
animation with running faucet. Found it always a little strange to have both
those fps-switches, but there probably is a deeper significance to it!
BTW I fixed a bug in CMPG63M; version 226 is now the latest.

Wow, wish I knew about this before. Takes some getting used to, that CMPG63M.
Hope I can manage to use the matrix feature. One problem though... the TGA
preview is really neat stuff but it flipped my images top for bottom. I'm
sure it's because the two I tested out had been converted from the original
POV-Ray output by IrfanView. I've seen it happen before.
Great thing once again Sander! Hope you find time to render too.

Bob

The 59.94 fps is a feature of CMPEG, not my invention!
The upide down pictures is a funny trick that sits in TGA: it should be not
too difficult to detect the difference and act upon it in 63M.
I converted Running Faucet with MainActor and got the same
upside-down-effect. It is my primitive way of displaying the TGA's in 63M...

Yes, aha, hmm, and now find some time to render...
