What makes an advanced user? Am I an advanced user given that if I had
enough time I could model pretty much anything? I can grasp most things
in Povray, except Radiosity, which is my next area to investigate. I
don't want to blur the boundaries between .general and .advanced-users
and so where I put my messages/queries should be appropriate.

I think all they meant was to put up a place beyond beginner.
When you can answer the oft repeated questions there, come here.
I don't see that anyone can ever master it all in POV.

I couldn't help but chuckle when I saw this quesiton in this newly
discovered ng.
On the AOL boards, someone once tried to set up a separate discussion only
for "Bible-BELIEVING Lutherans."

A true 'advanced user' can answer 10 out of 10 questions that novice users
post in povray.general ;0

Only if you can tell when RTFM is the correct answer. Remember,
the criteria require a perfect score. "Usually" isn't good enough.

Perfection is an impossibility.
But back when I was a newbie (ahem) this was the only answer I had - just like
many others. It does give the solution 9 times out of 10, if you take the
trouble to delve into it.

While the Povray docs are the best I have ever seen there is simply no way
to learn how to be creative by simply reading them. That takes experience
and answering questions in .general takes more that "book" read knowlege to
be able to field all of the questions posted there.
