I'm trying to model a mesh and have a picture (.jpg) on my computer for
reference. I can have the picture in a small window on top of Moray so I can
compare, but as soon as I attempt to move points, etc., the picture is
autimatically minimumized. Is there any way I can work in Moray and keep the
picture visible at the same time? I have Windows XP.

Right-clickify upon ye olde window title and hit 'backdrop' (or, hey,
ctrl+B...handy).

Thanks for the tip. I've never used that before. For my specific need at the
moment, it's not quite suited. I found, though, after playing with that for
a while, that if I open the image in IrfanView, I can click on Options/
Always on Top, and it will stay put while I work on the mesh.

Can you elaborate why?

If you can sacrifice a viewport, you can place it in there and select
the option to fill the viewport (i.e. not scale). Or if the aspect
ratio is important, deselect Fixed in View and select Keep Aspect.
Also, switching that window to Point rendering (press '6' with the
cursor over the view), higin the grid (Ctrl-G) you have a good
unobstructed, zoom- and pan-able view.....

If the aspect ratio is unusual (e.g. very tall) you can use the Window
Layout manager to select a better layout, too....

Mostly because I did not want to sacrifice a viewport. With the way I ended
up doing it, I could put it anywhere on the screen, and minimumize it with
one mouse click. It would be really cool if the backdrop image could be
moved to any position in the viewport. In my case, I'm making a human head,
and I'm working on the ear, which I have separated from the head and
translated to a position in back, so it is easier to see and work on by
itself. If the photo of the ear I have could be positioned right behind the
mesh, it would be almost like tracing.

OK, so why doesn't making it a non-fixed backdrop work for you? You
could make the head by 'tracing' what's on the backdrop.... the
backdrop will stay at the origin and will zoom and pan with the scene.
Granted you can't place it arbitrarily on the coordinate system, but
you can move it about the viewport...

The sample whale.mdl does this.

Thank you for pointing that out. I was wanting to move the backdrop to the
right spot, but I can move the mesh instead. I can always move it back to
its origin later.
