Is there a way to run "skin" over two objects that are not merged so to
speak?
ie *********** **********
*****************************************
* * + * * + a
covering image map, or what ever * 1 piece with no solid
middle *
* * * *
* *
*********** **********
*****************************************
I hope this explained ok, I'm making an item and would like to make a top
and a bottom and just stretch a whatever between the two. If I can explain
this further I'll try but for know I have no idea what I'm trying to say
verbally.

I just opened this in OE 5 with the folders column open, and it's pretty
messed up. I want two pieces, a distance away from each other to share a
"skin" between them

First, I'll assume by "skin" you mean a texture, not a skin-like
object (for example a bezier patch stretched between them).
But do you mean you want to use one texture on both pieces at once
thus save the trouble of assigning individual textures, or do
you want it to look like they were once together, painted while
they were together, and then subsequently split apart each taking
its piece of the texture with it? Either can be done; the latter
is somewhat more complicated to explain and requires you to use
multiple references to the same texture, but is still quite
possible, but it'd be better to know which you're trying
to do before describing a solution.

You should seriously consider using a fixed-width font when writing
(and of course reading) articles. Your ascii-art is pretty messed up.

I mean a texture that stretched between two seperate items (objects)
(without ansi art) an example...
I have two spheres 10 units away from each other, not touching. Can I use
a texture to make them into a solid capsule? or hotdog maybe?

This is not possible. Textures can only be applied to object not to
open space.

The easiest way to do this is to simply connect the two spheres with
a cylinder object who's end points stop at the location of the two
spheres and then apply your texture to all three objects. Read the
instructions on making groups using CSG specifically a UNION.

i think what he's getting at is what i've also been wondering...of course
lightwave has a feature similar to this, and blender has a deformation
lattice that can work that way too....but i suppose the question is: can
you use moray to connect two objects and have a smooth connective tissue
that runs across the ika joint and stays together when the joint is
bent...like the skin covering your elbow?? or, in the case of the previous
question, like two metaballs (metaobjects ??)...

The quick answer is: No.
