I can't get the plugin to render animations with POVRay. It works fine under
polray, but when I set it up for POV(see my reply to a previous posting) it
only renders the first frame. I opened the file exported to pov/scenes and
in a quick scan of it,I could find no clock instructions. Also, when
rendering to Pov the polyray render window is still rendering behind the POV
window. What am I doing wrong?

The animation plugin does not make use of POV-Rays (really too simple)
clock instructions, instead the file is exported for every frame.

This is correct, too. The "polyray" window just captures POV-Rays
output in case you've selected POV-Ray as raytracer.

So is there no automation? every frame must be rendered by hand?
surley not How do I get it to animate with POV? at first I thought my scene
might be at fault because I used objects not recognized by polyray, but I
tried again with the simplest scene I could construct, still no success

no, the polyray screen is completely black, nothing captured from anywhere

hi steven,
the animation plugin doesn't use povrays clock instructions. it
calculates the current values for the current frame, send it to povray,
wait until raytracing is done, then it calculates the values for the
next frame...
to do this, the animation plugin is using a gui-extension to povray.
check if this gui-extension is enabled in povray:
open the povray-window and check gui-extensions: there must be both the
"moray communications DLL" and the "moray animation plugin" enabled.
if the "moray animation plugin" is not enabled (or doesn't exist), check
the file "pvengine.ini" (it's located in the "INI"-path of povray).
somewhere near the bottom, you'll find the line:
ExtDll15=C:\PROGRAMME\MORAY FOR WINDOWS\MorayCtrl.DLL
(the path can be another, depends on how you installed pov)
this line activates the "moray communications dll".

to activate the "moray animation plugin" there must be a second line
like this:
ExtDll29=C:\PROGRAMME\MORAY FOR WINDOWS\PLUGINS\AnimGuiExt.DLL

i found out that xanders plugin only writes:
ExtDll29=C:\PROGRAMME\MORAY FOR WINDOWS\PLUGINS
so please add the missing "\AnimGuiExt.DLL" to the end of the line and
all will work perfect (i hope;)

Check that the GUI extension value got properly set for POV-Ray. There
are a couple of hints in the docs. There have been a couple of people
that had that fail.

The animation doesn't rely on POV-Ray's clock. Each frame is generated
and rendered automatically by the plugin. When you are done you either
have a series of image files or a single AVI file.

Yes, if you have POV-Ray set to render to a display as well as having
the plugin render to it's own display, you will see the image appear in
two windows at once (well, up to three if it is going to the Moray
window as well).

Thanks guys,

the plugin GUI dll extension did get chopped off somehow I corrected it as
instructed, Viola!!! avi animation by Pov.
Just one more question, I can only get avi output. If I choose bmp or tga
from the dropdown, when I click apply it jumps right back to avi. why is
this?

You are probably using beta 17 or before. I'm pretty sure this is
corrected in beta 18 (available from web site). Let me know if it isn't
fixed (it worked when I tested, but software has a habit of getting
broken again).

thanks Xander,
I was still using beta 17, 18 works fine. Could you please let us know here
in the Moray newsgroup when a new version is posted? thanks again for all
your great work.
