I am preparing my scene for the IRTC.. all well and good. It includes 6
magazines in udo/inc format, all the same model, but with different
textures.

Now, when I render, some of these are magazines, but others have
mysteriously turned into other objects (also udo/inc) from my scene. my
stack of colourful magazines is now a stack of colourful can openers and
flying cars. Urngh!

I've tried duplicating the magazines, and when I do so, they render
correctly, but this prevents me from assigning them different colours,
which is a necessity.

Anyone know how to get around this? It's a major hassle.. my current
idea is to make 5 copies of the magazine udo/inc, and use one for each,
thus eliminating any real duplication. Of course, this makes things more
complicated, and is an ugly solution.

Time is racing.. less than a week till the image is due!

Argh! Urngh! Wah! Help!

Buwahahahahah! The multiple UDO bug rears its ugly head once more. In fact,
if you search back about 6 months, you'll find my posts on the subject.
However, I'll just give you the solution, so you can get that entry in:
The problem is that your UDO's basic name(the one given them by your
converter. I'll assume that you're using 3DWin to convert them. reply if
otherwise), the one used in the files, and default name for Moray, match
throughout all your UDO/INC files. Try changing the names in the files
themselve(There are two places, at least in a UDO file where the name is
used. It'll be in this format:
[NoName0_default:Vertices]//or edges
in the INC file, it'll be in this format:
#declare NoName0_default = mesh
Make sure the names match.

Now, if its easier, try to reconvert the files, back into UDO/INC. This
time, before you export them, click on Statistic, then double click on the
mesh object, or click on properties. There, the name will be listed. Change
it, and the export. It ought to work. I look forward to seeing your entry!!
Good luck, and happy tracing.

Stack of colourful can openers and flying cars?

Now there's something you don't see every day!

I am sorry that you are short on time, but the mental picture I have formed
of your seen has me grinning & giggling. I hope you beat the clock & finish
your entry. Good luck!

Yep, I'm not using 3d win.. instead I've been using the Rhino demo, and having
it export directly to udo/inc...

As I mentioned in my other reply, I am using Rhino for the export. Do you mean
that since the cars, magazines, and can openers all contain objects named
"rhino object 1" (or whatever.. they have pretty ggeneric names), it is getting
them exchnaged? I noticed that where the magazines are bing replaced with
flying cars, it's in pieces. The spine is intact, but one cover has been
replaced with the car chassis.

Hrm.. come to tihnk of it, I also have a number of bean cans (6 of them, I
tihnk), and thay are having no exchange problems. However, I have these
labelled ("Can", "Label", etc, so that they don't have anything in common with
the other objects.)

I think I may try renaming the objects (in Moray itself, for now) Blue Magazine
Spine, Green magazine Spine, Blue Magazine Pages, Green Magazine Pages, etc...

At least I have something to do.. I had an almost complete entry a week before
the due date, so I was just waiting for something to go horribly wrong :)

Hrm.. the topic is "unbelievable" so if I can't get anything working, i'll
still have an unvelievable image, if not the one I intended! :)

My favourite bit was the flesh coloured can opener growing out of a table...
very post modern, that :)

Tried it, and it doesn't work. Perhaps the best way to do it is to rename them in
their files, as I suggested in my earlier post, or re-export them from Rhino.
Renaming them is just a bit of a bother, but it won't work otherwise. Renaming them
in moray doesn't do jack shit...this problem drove me nuts for 2 months, and the
ways outlined in my original post are the only methods I know that work perfectly.

UPDATE: It worked! Yay! You'll get a mention in my .txt file, and a great thanks.
Christmas is saved!
