I received a letter in the mail from Lutz & Co. regarding the new Moray v3.1
and one of the new features will be inverse kinematics. Who can tell me
about inverse kinematics?? I have seen in mentioned in product reviews in
CGW - but have no idea what it is.

Mike

In a hierarchical model you define how certain joints can be rotated
or moved. Then you select an object at the end of the hierarchy and
move it and Moray calculates how to rotate and move the joints you
specify such that the object you're dragging ends up where you're
dragging it to. The example that comes with Moray is a robot holding a
cube. It has a shoulder and a two-segment arm. You grab the little
cube and drag it and the arm extends and bends as specified.

Wooo hoo!

You, sir (sirs? I still don't know if Lutz Kretzschmar is one person or 2) , are a
genius! Thank you, this is what I've needed forever.. any chance of an updated
list of what to expect in 3.1, to keep us interested? Afterall, with all the
waiting we've done, you owe us! >;-) (j/k)

I think Lutz once said:
It's past mid-December and why has Moray V3.1 not appeared?

Sorry for keeping you all waiting but you'll be glad to hear that the
Beta test is over and we're busy finishing the help files, updating
the website and preparing the installation, so we will be releasing
really soon.

We think late Tuesday, the 22nd of December is a realistic release
date.

Lutz Kretzschmar is one person as far I know (you don't suffer from
schizophrenia, do you, Lutz? ;-), but to make matters worse, his first name
is the same as the last name of the other father of Moray, Markus Lutz :-)

Johannes.

Ah ha! That's why I'm confused.... doesn't Moray list the author(s) as Lutz +
Kretzschmar?

And that would be correct, wouldn't it?

(Markus) Lutz + (Lutz) Kretzschmar...

Joh.

So Lutz + Kretzschmar are two people, and Lutz Kretzschmar is one person?

This is too much for me... If I had the kind of mind that could sort this out, I
would be able to code by hand, and wouldn't need Moray :)

I suggest that, for marketing reasons, either Lutz or Kretzschmar change their
name. Maybe Lutz + Jones.... (easier to pronounce, too.)

No I don't<g>. But sometimes I wish I was two people, I could do
double the work or only need half the time<g>.

That's correct.

Yes, it's Markus' last name and my last name.

Your *last* name? You are doing this on purpose, do you? :-))

Johannes.
