I followed this:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Wacom#Gimp

Just putting "Mode: Screen" to the stylus (called Wacom Cursor in mine)
suffices.

I don't know exactly what effect tilt is supposed to give. Given
pressure, lines get thicker or slimmer so I'm not sure what to expect
from tilt more than that.

Notice you can get nice caligraphic countours with the ink tool and
mouse alone, just by adjusting the "brush" format.

Yes but it was Lance from Oz who convinced me to buy one.

That's great!

The tilt functionality with the calligraphy tool lets you hold the pen at
a specific angle and as you move the brush (without changing the tilt),
the width changes. It's different than pressure because the angle
determines the size of the stroke. Much more natural for doing, say,
Kanji calligraphy (which is what I tried it out with - no, I don't know
it, but I did learn to write "Japan" in order to see what it would look
like - and my sister-in-law would probably laugh at that, just as she did
at my attempts to say rather complex things in Japanese <g>).

If I get a few minutes, I'll create something and post it so you can see
the difference.

I bought my first one on ebay just to try it without spending too much.
Then I bought another small one to use with my laptop, then another
cheep one to use as a mouse at work.

They're ok <yawn> LOL

Not frivolous at all, dude! Now I believe it's a huge step forward in
man-computer interface (at least for people which like to draw). My
daughter is hooked as well, she's already drew and sent several
paintings to the grandparents... :)

Specially from technically creative minds like yourself! That's a great
tip! though I'll probably have no use for it anymore... :D

Yeah, I'm yet to try it out with Blender (and the sculpt tool). I've
been obsessively sketching and plain mud painting around in Gimp
alone... one of the best things is that there's no paper waste. :)

Uh, I don't think I would be able to stand to the anxiety of waiting for
it... :P

OK, yeah, I did that as well, had forgotten that I did that. :-)

I think I understand now. Perhaps it changes the brush format on the
fly depending on the angle? Gotta try it when getting home...

Yeah, the one feature I really wanted (I have the various keys programmed
to launch different apps) but I can't actually remember what I mapped to
which button. :-)

Not really the brush format, but just how it's applied.

The easiest way to see it (if your tablet supports it - I don't know if
the bamboo does or not) is to select the calligraphy tool and set the
size and speed sensitivities to 0, set the tilt sensitivity to 1 (that
way the tilt is the only thing affecting the brush stroke). Set the size
adjustment to the default and the angle to 90 (which I think is also the
default).

Then hold the stylus at about a 45 degree angle to the X or Y axis and
draw a square without changing the tilt. Then hold the stylus to a 45
degree angle along the other axis and draw another square.

What you'll see is that in the first case, the lines on the left/right of
the square are thin, and on the top/bottom are fat.

The second square will have fat lines on the left/right and thin on the
top/bottom.

The opacity will be consistent (so this is different than using the brush
tool with pressure set to opacity, which I think is the default).
