Ah, that blessed moment of realisation... like when you realise that
going from Orchid XP v7 to Orchid XP v8 means that YOU JUST LOST EVERY
GAME SAVE POINT FOR EVERY GAME YOU OWN! >_<
Great. So now I'll have to replay HL2:EP2 and Far Cry from the
beginning. :-S At least, if I wanna see the ending...

Ok, I'll stop making the clearly useless comments about the nature
of your posts, as they don't seem to have any effect. ;)
(There has been a side-effect to my responses to your posts though,
and it might even have been a good one: Whenever I get the urge to make
a "blog post" here, I immediately remember that I have been criticizing
you for posting so many, which would make me look a bit hypocrite if I
made such "blog posts" myself, and thus it deters me from doing so. Maybe
this is just a good thing.
Of course, thinking about *this* post of mine in particular, it kind of
is a useless "blog post" in itself, which means I'm using your post as an
"excuse" to make such a post myself. Maybe I just waited for this opportunity
to do so. Which kind of *does* make me a bit of a hypocrite.
Ok, I'll stop rationalizing now.)

Don't worry, it's pov.off-topic. It's not like it matters if you meander.
In other news, I just got a new graphics card. Why? Because it has VGA
out. Because my LCD monitor flickered intermittently with the only-DVI
that the card that came with this computer had.
Now have a GeForce 8500 GT with 1024 MB VRAM. Cost: $150
Vista's Windows Experience Score comparison:
old new
Processor: 5.9 5.9
Memory: 5.4 5.5 (guess the video RAM helped overall)
Graphics: 3.7 4.4
Gaming: 3.3 5.1
Primary HD: 5.8 5.8
And all I cared about was the ability to run my display at 1600x1200
again. Oh well, at least I should be able to run the Crysis demo at
more than 1 FPS...
And I tried Hardy Heron. Cute and all, visibly faster than Windows (but
then, Windows is visibly faster when you have a clean install, too...and
even when it's not, it's still faster than I fan physically react to my
perceptions) but Windows works just fine, is set up the way I want, why
bother switching to something else? I might drop it on my laptop for
playing with, but other than that...*shrug*

Yeah, it doesn't really matter, but still... :P
How about a compromise: Try to reduce the amount of "what does this mean?"
as well as "life really sucks" posts and concentrate more on funny anecdotes,
even if they are from your personal life.
I don't mean you shouldn't be able to let some steam off from time to
time, but try to not to sound like you are constantly whining about
everything...
(I'm really saying this to myself as well...)

I have an 8800 GTS on the way. I sooo can't wait to take the new machine

If I may make a stupid suggestion - partition the drive and put the OS alone
on the C drive. Redirect my docs and program files elsewhere.
It makes reinstalling that little less painful.
Yes, I know you'll still have to reinstall most apps, but at least you won't
lose data you've forgotten to backup

Alternately, most games save their games in a separate directory you can
just back out and then restore after reloading. (I'm not sure about
Steam games, mind.) That's generally what I do when I uninstall a game I
wasn't planning on replaying soon. Vista theoretically makes this
easier, as I understand it has a specific directory for game saves,
altho I can't say as how I expect Vista to have managed to put all the
files there for older games.

I already keep all my data seperate from the OS. But game saves? You'd
have to figure out where it stores them first. [Assuming they don't go
in the registry.]
The real fun part is Outlook Express. There must *be* a way to back up
the data it holds, but good luck figuring it out. [Fortunately, I don't
use it any more!]
