So for example neither Google Groups nor Slashdot haven't any users, right?

Where is the data on which you make this conclusion? I can tell you that
the percentage of people at our university who send clear text
passwords, the percentage of people on my Internet access company who
send clear text passwords, and the percentage of people on my site
hosting provider who send clear text passwords, is very high. The first
and last do not provide an option for non-geeks to not send clear text
passwords to access their e-mail. The middle one definitely still uses
insecure POP in their user instructions. If they provide secure e-mail
password checking, I don't know about (but I haven't looked hard, since
I don't use them for e-mail).

BTW, i missed something about POV-Ray, they probably did not have enough
time to write it, i hope there will be an article in the next issue.
But the author of
http://www.heise.de/newsticker/data/ghi-12.07.02-001/
should brush up his knowledge about the matter before...

Yes, I saw that two and the stupid flamewar someone cause in the "forums"
(am I the only one who has the impression those forums only contain
flamewars?)
The thing with the "ISO-surface" is a really obvious mistake. Maybe an
email to the author would help. In the past they corrected mistakes quickly
(like once when the newsticker moved the Motorola headquarter to Texas but
it really is in Illinois).
As for the actual content, I think this is because few people are in on a
Saturday just after the release of a new issue. On the other hand some
people there know how to use POV-Ray, otherwise there hadn't been these
interesting articles about 3.0 and 3.1.
Or maybe they just got those articles from independent authors like thy got
all the interesting radiosity (issue 6/91) and procedural textures (issue
1/93). In general they still seem to publish independent articles. Maybe
you would want try to write something about isosurfaces or other new 3.5
features...?

You are probably right although i have the impression that the authors of
those very good articles about 3.0 and 3.1 are no more working there, at
least all recent things about POV-Ray did not give the impression of that
much competence (although maybe it's just me knowing more about POV-Ray
now).

At least i will mail the author about the mistakes in the text.

Well, compare it with this even worse information in the news section of
macwelt.de (a big German version of the Macworld magazine). At least I am
wondering when I introduced simultaneous rendering of multiple scenes...

They changed it a bit now. Not much better, but at least now using a kind
of German word for isosurface, so one can only complain about the miserable
translation now ;-(

Well, while its use may not be visible immediately, once posting in the web
news interface really works, it will be a bit more convenient as it will
(for the time being) require authorization for each post.

BTW, it had to do with how the cookie stores the user information. At first
it would store the userid, which happens to be the same ID used when viewing
user profiles in the world map. So before I added protection of it one
could just take the userid from there and plug it into the cookie and then
see the private email address. That is no longer possible thanks to
additional validation of the cookie. Anyway, I am just mentioning this as
anybody who might try to implement something similar may not immediately
think of such a loophole ;-)
