like Ascii-pov *g*
But I should this put to some OT group.

Hm. Why not? but well... I agree that the pricing stuff gets odd.

*g* Well, owning the thing .... a bit far away. But maybe you could make
NASA/ESA pay for pictures. Oh no! again pricing *lol*

Cool :)
I'll take a look onto your site ASAP.
Are you astronomer? Or are you interested in amateur-astronomy?

Not likely. Even if everything else disappears, Pov-ray updates can be
loaded on a usenet binary group for free. The developers can continue to
give it away as long as they want the spirit of a great freeware raytracer
to stay alive.

When it comes down to it, there are folk using Pov-Ray that can provide
more facilities as needed. It's all a matter of attitude and casting
aspersions on the ethics and dedication of the pov-team is no way to help
that.

    Dear Sears and Roebuck,

I recently purchased a hammer at one of your retail stores in
Florida in hopes of nailing some boards together. However when I got it home
I found that the iron handle, besides being cold, didn't really fit my hand.
Worse, the wooden striking surface failed under repeated attempts to drive
in a nail. Lastly, the nails, which I also purchased at your store, only
seem to work one way. There is an inconvenient flat spot on one end that
prevents it from piercing the wood.

Please inform your manufacturers of this problem and have them fix it
and I will come back in a week or two and try to find the corrected tools to
exchange.

PS: don't feel bad, the lumber store sold me wood that was too short. I
cut it three times and it is still too short.

Well, be prepared for a dose of politics :) and some philosophy!
I'll be adding some papers on Physics in the near future.

I have a Masters in Physics on the topic of Neutrinos so of course
AstroPhysics used to be one of my favourtie subjects (it still is). And I
like Star watching too as a hobby! After Physics I moved into Philosophy.

Philosophy is interesting, politics... well... *gg*

I see!
Last weekend I had the chance of following up a documentation of the
neutrino "telescope" in the Baikal lake in Russia. Pretty amazing. I didn't
know that the lake is clear enough to give the photomultiplier a chance of
detecting the light-cone of a water-molecule-neutrino collision. I only knew
about the huge water tanks build in mountains.

Seeing forward for your physics posts! Do you have some material about the
newest concepts in getting rid of the "neutrino-defect" of the sun?
What was exactly the topic you were working on?

> like Star watching too as a hobby! After Physics I moved into Philosophy.

Interesting
I'm eger to see the first pics of Hubble after it's upgrade. Unfortunately I
had no chance for outdoor-actions with the telescope for more than a year.
Business is business....

SY

I don't see actual losses and forsaken potential profits in the same
way.

We *are* giving credit to the developers! It is not all money, you
know... we're using POV, cherishing it, defending it, working for the
benefit of it. People are making beautiful scenes, win contests, beat
kilobucks programs into the ground. Hundreds of useful add-ons are
being developed, such as patches, macros, includes, tutorials, or
even the simple friendly piece of advice to a newbie. And we all know,
remember, and ever remind ourselves and the rest of the world that all
of the above would not have been possible had it not been for the
Team. So yes, we *are* giving credit to the developers.

You know, where I live, I could go downtown and have 3D Studio MAX
4.0, Lightwave or Maya for less than five dollars each. And you know
what? I haven't done it. Think about it...

>Exactly the same reason why a lot of guys got angry in here!

Not at all. It's just that this question has been asked so many times
that it's not only a FAQ, it's made its way into the license agreement
as well (which you have read and agreed with, if you're using POV).
Asking something blatantly obvious just triggered people's troll
protections, that's all. Me, I wanted to reply earlier to your initial
post with just the type of answer you asked for (short, simple, no
flames) but I was too late. Hope you had your asbesto suit on :)
