POV-Users,
Do you want me to announce when I have made a sizable update to the
links pages at povray.org ?
For example tonight I added 14 new links to the site. That accounts
for about 1 - 2 seeks worth of submissions or adds that I make myself.
I don't know how often or how regularly you people check for new
additions to the site and you may be missing out on some great new
resources to explore. You can alway tell which are the newest links
added by way of the "25 most recent links" list at the bottom of the
links entry page. Those at the top are the most recent and those at
the bottom are the 'oldest' new links added.
If you people want it let me know, if not...

More than a dozen new ones does seem "sizable" for just 1 to 2 weeks. I should
check into that 25 Most Recent part more often. Only thing I see wrong with
making announcements every time there are so many additions is the extra effort
for you, otherwise I like to be nudged so I know about things so TIA if you do.
However I was thinking that if the home page at www.povray.org could display a
graphic and/or words to tell of such things with news flashes it could be all
the better. Something to keep a sense of newness going there.

It would only take me a minute to post an announcement. I wouldn't call that
an overwhelming burden and I wouldn't have offered if I didn't feel up to the
task.

I think the novelty of that would wear off in a short time. You wouldn't
believe how impervious I am to flashing banner ads at web sites now. I
don't even consciously see them anymore. Anyway Mr. Cason plans on doing
a major site redesign sometime in the future and perhaps we can improve
the presentation and visibility of the links page when that happens.

Yes, these pages have turned into an extremely valuable tool so it would be
very nice to have annoucements of that sort.

I usually check once or twice a week, but an announcement would be very
welcome. In fact, I just finished looking through the new additions;
unfortunately, the XTC listing is a little premature--the page says that the
modeller isn't yet ready for download. A couple of the other more
promising-looking pages gave error messages. I have a feeling these were the
links submitted to you, by people unaware of your prodigious speed and
energy. Thanks for all, Ken.

I always verify the links before adding them. I could find none that
returned an error even after rechecking all 25 of the newest links.
It does look like the makers of XTC were a little premature in submitting
their link but the notice says it should be available after the first
of April so hopefully the wait will be worth it.

Sounds like a connectivity issue on your end. I just connected to that
site with in 20 sec. of reading you latest reply. I often have problems
reaching web sites in the UK so don't feel too bad.
