Have you even spoke to him about this ?
Maybe, just maybe he would like to keep his work sacred ...

If Gilles would agree, I'd like him to
choose the winner himself. Just to get things going,
I want to read that like:
"unless Gilles comes attacking us, or asks us not to, we will go on."

Whew, looks like I have real fans out there :D
Big thanks to everybody. I should hire some of you people as worldwide
sales managers, but you have a too bright future in 3D !
I wish I had Kenneth "Lynx" Tyler's talent for well-phrased answers, but
here are a few thoughts.
- AFAIK I'm not dead (wait a minute... checking... OK, I'm still alive), so
seeing my name in an "award" is kinda spooky (though flattering of course)
!
- Competitions in art or in anything related to feelings don't feel right
somehow, even if the challenge itself can be very exciting. I understand
(and appreciate) a "best-looking laser sabre competition" because it is
pure skill, dedication and good work, but originality depends too much on
what one calls "originality".
- I always had trouble judging artworks ; this is just me, I don't know how
to praise nicely, and I hate being critical, because it can always hurt
people. In fact, I really feel bad about this, because I know too well how
important it is when what you create gets some recognition (even in tiny
amounts), and constructive criticism is obviously very helpful.
- Now if anyone wants to write stories around his/her pictures, makes some
music, creates anything, good or not, and make a competition out of it or
not, don't worry, I'll be happy.
Keep on tracing !

Anyway, I've been working on a pice like this for some time, and I've come a bit
too far to abbandon it.. *smiles*
But, competition is off.

So you don't mind being controlled by the anti-indentation police? ;-)

For some reason the first thing I thought of when I read this was
of the musical score from the famed Pink Panther movies. I'm now
stuck sitting here mentaly humming to myself the tune with the words
indent, indent, indent,.... well you get the idea.
Thanks a heck of a lot for that little mind implant Johannes. Da_m
thing will probably be stuck in there for the rest of the day now !

Well you're probably right.
However, I still think that this story-picture thing is a great idea, so
please people lets see some. It won't be as a competition tho.
I really would like to see some other people's ideas about this kind of
art.

For some reason, the photorealistic nature of raytraced images make them
quite suited to narratives or poetry. You can see for instance some
collaborative haikus written by several people around Tsutomu Higo's povray
& photoshop work.

Something like this could be done, with some people posting pictures and
other people (or the authors themselves) writing things "around" them,
stories, poems or even music.
