   I have to say that the winning entry didn't do it for me. Clever,
but not surreal imo. This subject crossed too many 'user interpreted'
boundaries.

Really?  The getting out part, or the pint?

"Harvest" was your first entry wasn't it?  My first entry I finished 
very close to the bottom in the ranking.  And I finish in the lower half 
about as often as I do the upper half.  I don't take the contest/voting 
part of this too seriously.  It's just a rough and ready way to focus 
attention.  Maybe my experiences as a college art teacher helps me keep 
some perspective, I dunno.

If you actually look at the tabulated results, povplane scored 4th overall
on "CMerit".  That still seems a little high to me, but many of the voters
recognized that it was not completely on topic.  Additionally, there wasn't
a lot of difference (in scores) between 1st and 4th place.  Had a few more
people voted, the top 3 could have looked quite different.

I'm not saying that our method of voting is perfect, but I do believe we
should all take part in it, when we enter.

I agree that it is in theory a good thing to take part. I think this
result makes it official, however, that IRTC=p.b.i. . Fine by me, but I
think that my hours are better spent creating pictures or commenting
than on subjecting the entries to a standard with which the majority of
entrants obviously disagree. Doing so serves no other purpose than
aggravation and is equivalent to the actions of those who post
identical, irrelevant comments on half of the entries.

Besides, if I were competing in a "who can produce the picture with the
fewest colors" contest, I wouldn't want someone to throw a wrench into
the voting by giving high scores to only the shiny entries.

Thinking about this and your landscape entry, I believe that you might
score higher if you didn't try *as* hard. Both of those pictures were
dark with open horizons. Very ambitious.

If you don't mind a suggestion, I would recommend that you fill at least
sixty percent of the viewable area with large objects like mountains,
buildings, or furniture. This would leave you with forty percent or less
of the area to fill with your subject models. This IMO is a more
reasonable goal for two months.

If we were to go back to the Loneliness round, many people were not
impressed with Gena's image (the winner).  Others were more impressed.

Sometimes the voting doesn't go the way we expect, but I don't think you
should simply write-off the competition because of it.

   Oh, it's not the getting out part, it's the pint. It makes my
stomach swell up like, you know, like one of those Space Hoppers that
kids bounce around on. Probably as tight as that too.  ;)

   I can understand that. My true art is jewellery design. *I* have
the best (and free!) Ray-Tracer in the World! - My Imagination. I can
see a design in my head, and then make the piece/model with my hands
and the tools that are available to me without referring to drawings
etc.

   I just wish I could do the same with PoV... It's sometimes
frustrating.

Not at all.
Talking seriously, I'm considering not to enter anymore.
Actually I'm going to enter for the current round, but
just because it's a kind of birthday (my 1st IRTC
entry was for the september-october round back in
1998, 5 years ago), and also 'cos I have almost completed
my entry.
