Does anybody have any idea about how to create simple unfolded models in POV
so they can be printed on paper, cut out, folded & glued together?

Are there any macros available that might do this?

Is gluing necessary? If not I have made some macros to help origami designing.
It is not perfect becouse of complex behaviour of paper but in basic shapes it
could be enough. I have used it in
http://www.irtc.org/ftp/pub/stills/2001-12-31/foldasia.jpg
http://www.irtc.org/ftp/pub/stills/2001-12-31/foldasia.zip
There is an 'origami.inc' include file. There are some macros to draw folded
and unfolded paper and put names of vertices on renderings to orientate. There
is no description for those macros so it can be crappy in usage, sorry. Feel
free to ask me details.

Quite hard to do that, I am afraid. Rhino might help, grab a demo at
rhino3d.com

I found a cool little program that will do what I want.

It's called Tenkai & it only costs $20, but does a great job of unfolding
models created in numerous formats.

Does Rhino 1.0 unfold models? I looked through the manual rather quickly,
but I didn't see anything remotely similar. I do know that there are
plugins available that run upwards of $300. That just won't do, no matter
what modeller I have!

You can unroll a developable surface, but only if it is mathematically
possible to unroll it. I've done it a lot when I was making a couple
of molds out of sheet metal.

Of course, SolidWorks + SolidSheet is much better at it if you're
ready for the price tag (about $5000 IIRC :) )
