Memory trouble perhaps. Different compilations, different ways of handling
it, maybe explains something.

I was unclear there, I meant some give me the error, and some don't.

Skyvase.pov only uses a few KB of memory, you could render it on a system
with one MB of RAM...

Yes, but couldn't the +b1000 throw a wrench into the works? That's what I
was getting at anyway. Obviously it is not a large number (1 MB) but I was
grasping at straws there, memory use flaw type thing.

I was thinking something on the same lines, but the error message is quite
spurious if that is the case.

No, it actually reduces memory use compared to say +b1 (a few bytes only in
skyvase.pov in either case). You could set it to +b1000000 and it would not
require more memory than +b1000 in any case.

Just done a couple more texts and found that just -i skyvase.pov +b100 works,
but if I use +b1000 in conjusction with the other options that come before it
(from the benchmark site), then it doesn't work in megapov but does in standard
3.1g.

I get the above error with MegaPOV v0.7 on OpenVMS Alpha if I try to use
the "+Mv2.0" setting. If I leave that out, it compiles just fine with
all the
other options.

	$ megapovray +i skyvase.pov +v1 -d +ft -x +a0.300 +r3 +b1000
                     +w640 +h480

Works where..

	$ megapovray +i skyvase.pov +v1 -d +ft -x +a0.300 +r3 +b1000
                     +mV2.0 +w640 +h480

dosen't work and gives the above error.

Yes, because the syntax in the scene file is 3.0 syntax and you obviously
get an error when enforcing version 2.0 syntax. The version of skyvase.pov
included in 3.1 clearly states that it has been updated to use new 3.1
syntax features.

I rememember having a similar problem when I moved from mp0.4 to 0.6
and see I've got a textures6.inc with "#version unofficial MegaPov
0.6;" added as the first line, and a skyvase6.pov which uses that
include. Both have the comment "Mods to remove MP6's error message". I
can no longer repeat the error and there have been no major system
changes since.

I'm using DOS versions of pov and mega, usualy under a Win98SE prompt.
