When I render some scenes as a pict file using MacMegaPov 0.5 it works
once, then when I rerender the scene I get a message:

file init error.
Error opening output file.

It doens't seem to effect any other file types that Pict.

Deleting the image before re render works. No other programs are running
at the time, either.

Any ideas out there on this one?

We are unable to reproduce it. Everytime we use a Pict, things do what
they should do. 
No problems with rerendering etc..

Does it happen often?
Do you have a scene were you can reproduce it always?

So far it has happened to every scene I've rendered. I was lucky with some
scenes and it didn't happen the first time, but eventually it did happen on
every file.

Come to think of it, is' only happening on an 8500 Power PC. I have a G4
that I've been working with and it didn't happen. I haven't tried it on the
iMac G3 I have at home, becasue I haven't been home for more than five
minutesin the past two weeks.

This machine might be having other problems. I know that other file formats
arent' giving me grief and if I delete the pic file, I can render without
difficulty. '
The error happens right after the "creating vista buffer." line in the
message window.
I'm running low on hard drive space (less than 20 megs) and It seems
POV-Rayneeds a lot of memory. Should it really be 65000 K? The mac I have to
work with only has 32 built in.... this might be part of the problem.

I was hoping that it could be related to the file name (spaces or odd
charachters). 
Did my best but every time I use a Pict as output it works fine. Tried a
lot of things, compression, no compression,...

Oeps,... thought we lowerd it to 16000K before we uploaded 0.5. No, you
don't really need 65000K, try something like 10Mb but better 16Mb or
more. It all depends on the kind of image you are rendering. Yesterday I
rendered an image and had to give 150 Mb using virtual memory.. 
That is one of the few things I don't like about MacOS... you have to
set the amount of memory.

I tend to give it a lot of memory, but that seemed excessive for the prefered size
of the allocation block, especially since the minimum is only 8000k.

The strange thing wiht this PICT issue is that it's behaving exactly as if it
isn't closing the PICT file completely, even though I can open the PICT in another
app with POV-Ray still running..

I have found one interesting problem related to this.

Under preferences... file types,for Pict file I chose a creator ogle and type qtif
so they will be opened with Picture Viewer from QT4. If I leave the icon button
unchecked, I get a picture view document and I can render twice in a row before it
tells me it can't open the file.. If the icon button is checked, the image does
have a custom icon, but the type is PICT and the creator is ^   . The problem
flares up immediately.
