I experienced exactly the same behaviour with both s-pov and x-pov on my slack 4.0
install. I have a netscape glibc binary that also seg faults. Any suggestions?

All I can tell you is that when I recompiled x-pov, it worked fine. I
had to recompile libpng and libz too, even though I had what claimed
to be the right versions (I put the recompiled versions in
/usr/local/lib. Maybe that is the trick.). Maybe that is the
problem, somehow. I was unable to recompile s-pov for lack of vga.h,
but I didn't pursue that because x-pov is sufficient for my needs at
this time.

Something is odd here, though, because before I upgraded POV to version 3.1g it worked
fine, but after I did it, then it segfaulted on my as well.....I will try
compiling (maybe I'll get some benefits by doing so) and seeing if that helps...

It's probably worth noting that I upgraded from RH5.2 to RH6.0 between
3.1e and 3.1g.

I'd like to get some of these problems with various Linux distributions
worked out, but right now I'm packing to move, after which I'm off to
SIGGRAPH.

Hmm...strange stuff....Now I'm having display output problems in Pov-Ray....apparently
I need update libraries? Oh well, best of luck with your moving as well as
SIGGRAPH.
