High!

Currently, I'm working on a 3D frontpage cover for the web version of a
newspaper issued by a vocational training center in Cologne, Germany. As
the name of the newspaper is "Ente" (duck), which is colloquial German
for "press hoax", I had the idea of programming a nostalgic 70s retro
scene containing a Citroen 2CV (and, of course, a pretty long-haired
hippie dude) - which is in Germany also called "Ente".

As I remember from a posting back in 2003 on p.b.i. (by Gilles Tran? The
title was "Not for sale anymore"...), I know that free 3DS models of the
Citroen 2CV exist on the web, but after downloading the model at
http://www.cadthai.com/dw/md/2CV6scenes.zip, I realized that the
time-honoured 3DS2POV converter can't handle modern 3D Studio Max files.

So my question: does anybody here around know of POV converters for more
contemporary 3DS files?

See you in Khyberspace!

If you are using windows, you can use POSERAY.
The v3.8.7 has just been released this week.
It take 3DS file, and export it to POV.

In the requirement, FlyerX said that some users have reported that PoseRay
also works with some emulators for Mac or Linux...

possible !
There was no "Post a reply to this message" under your question.
So I have to use the standard newsreader at news://news.povray.org/ ???

But the file in question is a MAX file, not a 3DS file. That will be why
things like 3DS2POV and other convertors can't touch it. I don't know of
anything that can convert MAX files.

So is there a 3DS (not MAX!) model of the Citroen 2CV available
anywhere? Hmmm... and how to model the long-haired hippie dude? Are
there perhaps even pre-made 3DS (or even POV) models of long-haired
bearded hippies?

Hi

You can convert 3DS to POV using Pipline3D - you can download a free trial from
www.kalsaya.com. You can also go from OBJ,XSI,PLY,LWO and others to POV.

good luck!
