HELP! I need a brushed aluminum texture (Message 1 to 4 of 4)

I need to present a model to some folks this week and all my attempts at
a brushed aluminum texture have been less than appealing. Does anyone
have something whipped up already to donate to the cause? I'll post the
finished model in p.b.i when I get it finished.

Thanks,
Andy

There is one such texture in textures.inc...it is called
Brushed_Aluminum. :-)
It basically uses an unevenly scaled bumps normal to simulate the
scratches. Check out the other textures, there are some techniques in
there which you might find useful.

Brushed aluminum is hard to get at because of it extremely anisotropic
BDRF. To fake it in POV, you would have to use an extremely finely
scaled normal that follows the direction of the bruisings (usually
straight, crosshatched, radial or coil-shaped) and use a very strong
AA setting (like +am2 +a0.05 +r3). Also, I would use two highlights, a
soft phong and a tight specular. I'd also add a brilliance in the
range 1.5 - 2.5 and some reflection. Using blurred reflection would
probably be overkill because, paired with the high anti-aliasing
settings, it would skyrocket the render time.

I hope this helps, sorry for not posting any code in this group but I
don't have any relevant scene handy. If you get stuck I'll try to hack
at a brushed aluminum texture myself.

There's a simple one on my web site. (URL in sig) Go to about half
way down the models page and get swords.inc. I got
the texture from somewhere, can't remember where.

It's not great, but might help at least.
