I modified POV to allow the use of any pattern to modellize the
particle-repartition of a hallo. To see some examples, you can have a
look at my homepage (look bol.jpg, too). I would like to know whether
somebody would be interested in using this version. In that case, I
would have to find somewhere to place the source (or patches), or ask my
ISP the authorization to distribute it through my homepage.
Please tell me if you are interested.

Interesting... I think I have made exactly the same patch too...
I modified the isosurface patch so that one can use custom made
functions as the density mapping to halos. Does your patch work
the same or is it only possible to use one of povrays "own"
patterns as the density mapping? (I checked your homepage but
I don't speak French)
I haven't yet release my "patch" since it is small. (less than 50
lines needed). Please check www.lysator.liu.se/~mbrx/p5d for an
example of what one can do using my patch idea. (The patch
presented there is outdated... and can be accomplised simpler)

PS. Keep up the good work - patching povray... that's what
makes povray so great...

Before you guys work too hard on these patches, be aware that POV 3.1 will be
coming out fairly soon (not sure exactly when) and will greatly change halos
(i.e. get rid of them). The replacement, known as media, already supports all
available POV patterns. POV 3.1, however, does not include the equivilant of
isosurface's user-defined functions.

Sincerely,
Nathan Kopp

Wow! Is this really true ? Halos using any of the standard POV patterns !
Cool ! My mind boggles with the possibilities.

POV 3.1 makes big changes to halos... some are good, others I don't like.
You'll have to decide for yourself, of course.
