I love my macro lens.
People ask me "why did you spend all this money on a real camera, when
your phone can do exactly the same thing?" And then I show them pictures
like this, and I say "can your phone do THIS?" And they're all like
"Wow... Erm, no. It can't." And then they go away.
Sadly, last week I dropped my macro lens on a concrete floor, and now it
doesn't work. It is at least insured, so it won't cost me anything to
get it fixed. But still, they're telling me 5 to 6 weeks to fix it... :-(

Nice image.
Shame about your lens. But you will not need it for the fireworks next
month. Whiz bangs.

I know the feeling. My wide angle lens got into a fight with a
cobblestone plaza in Mexico, and the the plaza won.

I lost a Canon to ex-wife/thieves,
and a 4x6 view camera with extra lenses that I spent a lot of time restoring to
the same.
At least you had yours insured.
Way to plan ahead! :) {high-five}

Less "plan ahead", more like "shops want to sell you insurance for
everything!"
They tried to sell me insurance when I bought a 35mm prime. For those
that don't know, the AF-S DX Nikkor 35mm f/1.8G is *the* cheapest lens
in the entire Nikon range, bar none. If it breaks? I can just buy a new
one! (Or, with the lens I'm considering next, I may not even need it any

You fought the law, and the law won... the law of gravity, that is.

And five year extended warranties. You can end up paying more in
insurance than the thing costs.
Check your home insurance, often it will cover your property outside of
your home. For instance mine covers my mobile phone for loss and
accidental damage. I read that it did then checked with customer
service, just to make sure. E.g. O2 insurance would cost £240 over two
years for the iPhone 7.

What, like £90 to insure a £100 crystal ornament for a year?
Yeah, I told the guy "if it breaks, I'll just buy a new one". And when
my mum broke it, I bought a new one! :-P

Interesting. Several people have said this. I'll have to figure out who
the **** I'm actually insured with... Presumably I had paperwork
somewhere, but that was way back when I bought the house! My plan? See
who's taking money out of my account each month. FOLLOW THE MONEY! ;-)

Exactly and they say it as if they are doing you a favour.

I normally just tell them that insurance companies only exists because
they charge more for the premium than they expect to pay out on average.
It's amusing then when they try to argue against this point.
